I was simply pointing out that the "information about festivals" post said that costs will be listed on the calender post for each one, and inquiring as to that status for this particular event since it wasn't posted.

No, Self-Taught skills are bonuses usually only given at the Ball and the OOG Award Banquet (which we did not have last year).  It was also added to the recent Alt event, but it is not a common award for normal festivals.

Back in my day we didn't have self taught skills. You had to walk 20 miles uphill both ways to logistics to get them to maybe send out a teacher.

You forgot "in the snow..." :)

Seriously, the self-taughts are meant for when it is difficult or impossible to learn at a normal event.  Because the ball is non-combat, a skill is offered.  The Alt Event, you only have a few hours as your normal PC, which limits learning.  At a Festival, however, learning is not restricted, so there is no reason to offer self-teach beyond the normal Fate.

For those living a long distance away and not wanting to make the round trip in a day, the following is available:
One Queen waterbed in the upstairs of the barn
Ditto in my son's bedroom loft (he'll be down the shore with Emily's family)
Single futon on the first floor of his room
King bed in the loft of the guest room.

Two comfy couches, each suitable for one person
Two twin air mattresses.
Lots of sleeping space on floors

Tents work, as many of you are well aware.  I have wall hangings which can be used to cover them so they will look IG.

Tina will be at New Orleans for a Teacher's Union conference.  Tough life, but I will still claim our king bed.  No, Adam, I will not share it with you.

If you would like to come down Friday or stay until Sunday morning to break up the drive, message me and we will work out sleeping arrangements

Generally speaking I let all new players pay half price for there first event. If they need to use that benefit for a festival they can and pay $10, but if they think there is a remote possibility they will make a full event, they will save more money using it then.

DSW I will be home until June 30, so I most likely will be at Festival for all of you who want to talk with me about garb... :>)
Sam (and any one else who wants to) -- you can practice walking up hill both ways on our driveway as there is a stream in the middle of it, so there is hill to go up no matter whether you are coming or going!  Sorry, I can't do anything about the snow part though

Okay... So random question. One of my friends from college will be in the area and joining Matt and I in our trip out to the Festival. Because she is new to LARPing and gaming in general her and I will be NPCing the event.

So question 1) If she makes it to a full weekend event will she still be able to receive the half off price for her first real event and keep her NPC build if she decides to buy it? and 2) who do I need to talk to about NPCing for the event?

NPCs are free now for all events. If she NPCs the festival, she get the build for it, and then she can get 1/2 off her first event as a PC.

I would be the person to speak to, but im not ready just yet. Still finishing u the concept and write up for the festival. It will be posted soon.

Ok, so, I've been searching the site, and could not find the answer to this question... When does the festival start time-wise?  Living in Central Jersey, I'll need to plan for around 3-4 hours beforehand since I can't go up the night before.

Living in central Jersey, you should plan on 1 1/2 hours max.  I make it to Sparta in that time, or maybe 2 hours.  From the Delaware Memorial Bridge at the other end takes 1 1/2 hours tops as well.  From 287/78 intersection is around 45 minutes to an hour.

A few logistical details

If you are not a kitchen marshal or a designated helper, stay out of the kitchen.

If you are bringing something that must stay cool or cold, bring a cooler or ice chest.

There will be two Porto Johns with a hand sanitizer and water station set up outside them.  Unless you are my sister Teri, who inherited indoor bathroom rights at parties when my mother died, do not bother to ask.  Our septic system is not forgiving at 32 years.

Water will be constantly available, along with watermelon.  I urge you to avail yourselves of both.

Not certain how it will work out, but the "bar" will either be open or honor.

If anyone has some suitable tables they can absolutely commit to bringing, please let me know by PM

The field has been mowed twice and will get at least one more treatment.  This means if you bring an old blanket you will have a very IG place upon which to sit.

Any tree that offers suitable shade may be utilized for that purpose.  I warn you that those on the tree line and not in the field or front "yard" may prove to have poison ivy on the ground or growing on them.

Up until the time James announces as the official start time, people may drive their vehicles to the top and unload.  We have a circular (actually teardrop shaped) section at the top, so maneuvering will not be a challenge.  There are at least two pull overs on the driveway if vehicles are traveling in the opposite direction.

There is ample parking in the lower field.  We will have some [strike]poor schmuicks standing in the sun
[/strike] people directing parking to maximize things and to assure that every vehicle will be able to leave at any time.

If it is a hot day, we may have a gnomish device that will sprinkle water.

Although I mentioned it before, Demon Dog with Deer Leg should not be deliberately fed.  He will do quite well with your accidental droppings.  The pathetic look he will give you is genetic.  He is quite friendly and may be safely approached by anyone.

Which reminds me.  I will have my Keshond Caleb and my Collie (blue merle) Melody.  Please please please do not feed these dogs people food.  They do not tolerate it well at all.

Melody is a BIG puppy at 9 months come this festival.  She does jump though we are trying to curb it.  Caleb is afraid of people and we are trying to gently bring him out of that shell of his.  Both are friendly in their own way.

They will have their kennels with them for time out.  Respect the kennels as its their safe havens.  Unlike Tempus and Jazzy, my two Shelties who have RPed IN KR and a Fae LARP prior...this will be their first experience with it.

I'm really looking forward to introducing them to you all.
