Hey all,
My name Francis Im from philly pa and I have been fighting in another game for about 4yrs.  And myself and some of the orcs from my game are looking at coming into knights realm and giving larping a shot.  SO any help here would be welcomed, I am currently planning to sit down and give the rules a read a few times. But figured I would come on and say hello, best way to get to know folks right!

Hey Darkwood!

we will becoming over from dagorhir.  A whole different system and style of fighting ( full contact with full strength swinging allowed).  So gonna have to bare with us hehe.  But yea a group of orcs.

Some questions.  How hard hitting is combat? I must have missed them but what level of physical contact am I allowed? Grappling, agressive shield use ( I.E. Punching, kicking, bashing, checking?).  This is simple so when I make it out I dont fall into the fighting style I am used to.  Fighting wise are head feints legal?      I just want to make sure I am fighting up to all Knights Realms saftey standards and such.

(un)fortunately, this is not Wargames style LARPing. Aggressive full-contact is both not allowed and frowned upon - ie, while full-strength swings are technically allowed, its better to pull your swing unless you're up against someone who you know can take it. No headshots, no punching and kicking, and I believe no shield bashing.

Did I get that right? Anything to add?

"Ok we can attack... but if we miss, we'll hit the villagers."
"I'm willing to take that chance!"

Things I am no longer allowed to do in an RPG :
31. The backup trap handler is not whoever has the most HP at the time.
73. Not allowed to name my cudgel Ceremonial Whoopass Stick.
74. My thief's battle cry is not "Run And Live"

Hi.

Most of your questions should be able to be answered on the New Players! section of the website.  There's also the online rulebook.  It's pretty lengthy and covers most everything in the game that players will need to know.

Most of the players and staff are away this weekend (the July 4th weekend) as we are having an event.  A listing of when most of our events can be found here.

It's okay... I have a hardcopy version and I read it and the on-line version still several times a month.  It's a lot of stuff and it's easy to forget or overlook something.

As someone who's done full contact sport (back in the day, when my younger bod could hack the activity more) I also mixed larping in and its definately an effort to get used to the change of impact. Its muscle memory, so you should be extra careful with swings and never make actually body contact. Infact, charging too close it usually not allowed in larps, so prepare to halt within weapon length distance as much as possible so you don't get into the danger zone that would be completely acceptable in SCA and Dag.

Good luck. I had my 1st KR event this weekend and its good people and a good time. The system is deeeeep so prepare for lots of learning, both in the rulebook and over time in game.

Huzzah for other Orcs!

Be sure to ask on the rules forums about anything containing to orcs that arn't on the brief description in the rulebook if you're looking to do something that you arn't sure about.

While the combat is very different, its still very fun!

Hey there guys,

Glad to see you are interested in coming out to join us. The Forum's here are primarily an Out Of Game tool to help facilitate the game. We do have one Forum that is for In Game use, but it represents a cork tack board on the wall of the Inn in the center of the In Game town. Once you have shown up to an event (provided your character(s) have the skill Literacy) you can start posting up on there.

It will be great to have a crew of orcs show up to the game and if you have any other questions feel free to post them up here or if you like you can contact me directly at

Hope to meet you guys soon,

Ok so as an Ork Shaman, which would be like a priest right or wrong?

A shaman could be interpreted as a mage as well.  Problem is, an Orc can't start as either profession.

Check out the Orc racial page to check out your options:

Orcs are short on casters, but can start as a priest, but penalized

Shaman is usually a druid or some kind of off the wall explanation for how something not known for being a mage or druid is called such.

(Why do they get Ranger as a starter, but not druid as a penalized, and vice versa with cleric? but enough opinions)

As per the racial rules, you cannot start as a penalized profession:
"Starting Professions
Each character race has a list of professions that are available to the race as the first profession that can be acquired – either at character creation or learned, if the character begins without a profession. If a certain profession is not listed under a race’s available starting professions, a character of that race cannot choose to begin play with that profession. All other professions – except Dragoon, Healer, Psionicist, and Wild Mage - are available to all races after character creation, except for those listed as Prohibited Professions. "

According the the above passage, you would need to start as one of the starting professions and then dual-class into priest later on.

Skimmel is correct. If I were you, and wanted to play an Orc Shaman, I would go with Orc Ranger. They have a good blend of druidics (a very shaman-like casting) and combat skills, and combat is important to the Orc race at Knight Realms (just look at the description on their page). Then, later on in your KR career, you could pick up the druid list if you wanted to further your casting abilities. But you can't start as a druid.

You could always start off as a preferred Ork combat class and buy into the casting classes once you've accumulated the 10 build price after a few events. Just a thought :)
