A simple way to know if going to KR on Valentine's Day will work.

Say to your significant girl/guy/turnip/made up friend "Wow, I can't beleive that James guy, scheduling an event on Valentine's Day. Is he nuts?"

If their reply is
A) 'Yeah, he's crazy.'
Don't go. This will not only hurt you and your romantic chances that day, but will certainly be used for future arguements as well.

B) 'Well, it's not such a big deal, it's just a made up holiday anyway.'
See answer A. This is known as a test, and you better pass.

C) 'That sounds pretty cool. Go and have some fun with your friends.'
This may be legit and you can get away with going, but know your partner well, for this may be a stealth B.

D) ' How much build do you get?'
You're dating Sam Roberts.

Warning: Thread Necromancy... from Chris K's example above, I imagine this 1 day event lead to something more like the use of these 9 words.

Everyone please remember to have plenty of boot socks at the Valentine's day event. You might even want to plan to make room for thick winter boot socks ahead of time.

It actually works out awesome for me. See, on Valentines day we'd never be able to get a sitter, but if we celebrate that sunday, then sitters galore and the 'valentines day' crowds at restaurants are greatly decreased!

Actually my response would be a combination of the two above. But you definately get points either way.

Ya most of you date each other anyway ;) Your idea of of a romantic valentines day should be saving each other from the clutches of evil :)

Valentine's Day, 2008: Diane gets a dozen roses, a copy of Torchwood Season 1 on DVD, and a latex katana from Ateliers-Nemesis.  She's overjoyed that it wasn't the "easy answer" of chocolates, even if they had been sugar-free.

The nice thing about dating another LARPer is you rarely run out of ideas for gifts...  ;D

Sadly, though, we usually spend V-Day running the Green Room at Katsucon, an anime convention down in D.C.

And when you've known one another for 20+ years, Ch's and mine last gift exchanged included a furry leather hat for Fr Edwin and a mounted bat skeleton for me which I display on the front table in my science lab at school.  My 7th graders are convinced Ch and I are crazy.  :D

Save her from the temptations of Good.

I have yet to see "good" ever have any "temptations".

Any new information yet on what the start/end times are for the event?  What's the build situation like?  How are NPC's going to be handled?  Is this like some of the 1 day festivals (like the December 13th) in which commodity cards and the like are handled?

No rush... just thought I toss out the inevitable questions that will arise when we have these things.

My hubby and I think Valentines day is stupid! We choose to try hard and be romantic everyday, or bring eachother a gift 'just because!' Not because it is the socially acepted love day of the year. (plus here is a hint guys.. most girls love originality! ... unless they are gold diggers...then just get them jewelry)  We will happily be attending on the 14th!

i've never been a big person to celebrate Valentines day, but i like celebrating monthly anniversaries cuz it is something personal. It just so happens my 3 month mark is on the 15 but we have plans for the 14th into the 15th.... we make it a full day of love :-) so sorry i won't be there! maybe at the end of the month.

Speaking of the event... James, any news for those of us who are NPCing for the entire event? I'd like to know what I need to bring so I can start packing (I have very little spare time, so I have to know what to do with it!)

Thanks!  ;)

Well, for NPCs, bring what you would normally. I will have costumes and masks, but try to wear what would look good under a tabard... like black'ish pants, blackish footwear.. if possible, a black shirt etc...

Bring warm clothes. Even though we will be running the larger mods in doors, we are likely to have some random outside encounters as well.

This has been approved by James C. Kimball.

Seems like we could not find the spell packets today when loading us the vehicles for this weekend.  I will be bringing 36 of my beanbags, plus another 100 or so "regular" packets (can they be tied with rubber bands?).  James would really appreciate more.  Casters probably would as well. :)
