Rules Update: Luck was created by Ardentfyre (Ardentfyre)
The following changes have been made to Luck:

* Wording and effect changes due to "Superior Traits" thread.
* Luck now allows the player to replicate most Rogue abilities.

[hr]

Luck
Skill (Per Event), Defense
A Gambler is good at faking a lot of things and cheating her way through life.  Once per Event, the Gambler can replicate the effect of any one skill from a Rogue Lower List that has access to the skill Fence.  The proper way to declare this would be to call "Luck X", X being the skill mimicked. (IE. Luck Escape Restraints!)  This skill may not be used to replicate any skill with the Interrogation or Social Trait, and may only replicate the first rank of any tiered ability.

Does this apply to the Kitieran racial Luck as well, or is that going to be redone (like Quin scrolls)?

Wait, I thought luck was a defense against any attack?

Its currently in the new rulebook as:

Luck
Skill (Per Event), Defense, Superior
This skill allows the character to avoid one moment of ill luck. This skill can be used as a
defense against any attack. A marshal must be present to decide the outcome of this skill when
used in a role-playing situation.

So luck is no longer good against any attack, only those that can be blocked by a rogue list defense?

Correct.  Luck is no longer a superior defense.  That said, its pretty sweet because it can now be used in a wide range of lower list ways.

I apologise if this thread is somewhere else I only have a little time to spare and wanted to mention something from December's event that seems pertinent considering the change to luck.

I'm not sure who I was talking to but I was reminded that it was against the rules to chain skills; the example I gave was something like (but not exactly) "perfect strike, Ki strike". Now the new Luck skill does just that, except that it's restricted to lower list skill only.

My question is: was/is there such a restriction in place that would contradict the new Luck Skill Mechanic and if so how does that affect skills that lend themselves to the possibility of being combined with others.

The function of new luck isn't about chaining skills.  It's a mimicry skill.

Whereas only skills that are meant to be tied into multiple attacks "Feint - Disarm" for example state so.

Luck is a replacement skill.

You have a purchase of Luck, and when you use it, it becomes the skill you call with it.  For instance

Luck - Willpower.  It's one skill, not being tied to any other skill.

Chris is correct.  "Luck - Achilles Strike" is not two different skills, the Luck is simply acting as the Achilles Strike.

Actually considering that it mimics a skill and Luck is within itself an Event Based skill, it cannot be used to mimic a Continuous Skill.  The "Event Based" function of the skill does not alter when you call your Luck - "x"

Achilles Strike
Assail
Athletic Feat
Basic Entry/Escape
Basic Disguise
Body Shot
Break Limb
Climb
Critical Backstab
Detect Traps
Disarm Traps
Dodge
Escape Restraints
Flee
Forgery / Detect Forgery
Hide in Shadows
Inflict Pain
Nail
Pick Basic Locks
Pick Pockets
Quick Bind
Refresh Disguise
Second Chance
Set Traps
Smuggling
Stunning Blow
Subdue
Trip
Waylay
Willpower
Yado

Unless I am mistaken, this is the list of things possible to use the Luck Mimicry with.  These are the list of things as far as I see that fit into the parameters and intent of the skill.

In the rulebook, physician skills are listed as periodic.  I'm fairly certain that's incorrect, but if I'm wrong, does that mean Luck can imitate a rank 1 physician ability, as those appear on Torturer?

Physician skills are continuous.  You can imitate the rank 1 Physician Abilities: Advanced First Aid, Treat Blackout, and Dissect.  However, when you use them with Luck, you can only similate them for one target per use of the skill Luck.

I'm trying to imagine the in-game circumstances of a "Luck Waylay" and all I can picture is Curly accidentally cracking Larry in the head with a shovel.
