Short Term Changes to the Land System was created by Gunnar Gunnarson (jhines0042)
Xualla has been vanquished. Most of the demons have been banished from this world back to their own. Now the time of rebuilding begins. While they were in the world the demons damaged or destroyed everything. Whole towns have been burned to the ground, their communities destroyed. The bodies of the dead, too numerous to bury, lay rotting in piles or burn in smoldering pyres. Refugees numbering in the tens of thousands crowd the camps and there is barely enough food to feed everyone. Clean drinking water is a luxury. The able bodied who were conscripted to fight account for most of the dead leaving only the old and young behind. Children have no parents. Grandparents are the last of their bloodlines alive.
Despite the recent celebrations it is clear that business has not yet returned to normal for most of the land.
The only thing left to do is to show up and work hard. Travance will rebuild. But rebuilding will take time, patience and good fortune. If Travance can hold out until the spring there is hope for a bright future. But winter has only just begun.
Land System Changes effective immediately
These changes are intended to be active for a short time only. The goal of these actions is to represent the rebuilding process of Travance but it also gives us time to update the land system and put it online. The following 4 actions will be allowed:
Maintain Public Order -- maintain the rule of law and keep riots from breaking out
Rebuilding -- physically repairing existing buildings, businesses and roads. Only possible if enough public order is maintained
Refugee Management -- increases population numbers as more refugees survive and helps with public order
Cause Mayhem -- make everyone else’s actions less efficient and can cause riots if enough such actions are taken.
If you feel that you have a skill/ability/list that would give you a bonus for these actions, please feel free to write it in. Please pick the single most appropriate skill/ability/list you would like us to consider.
These actions can be submitted up to the Friday before the next few events. There is no guarantee that you will get a personal report of how effective your actions are as there is just too much chaos going on in the world to know if your actions are effective or not. The administrators of each land will receive an abbreviated report of how their land is doing and the Barony will get a summary of the land as a whole.
Refugees will shift to new lands if they think they can get better treatment, eventually settling in at their final destination. Some refugees will die. This may very well result in different racial composition of some of the lands. Or it may not.
The higher the public order rating for each land the easier it will be to rebuild. When the new system comes online only those buildings / businesses that have been fully repaired will become operational. Anything that was already constructed may be repaired given enough time. Any building that was in the progress of being built will be on hold until the new system is active. The intent here is not to take anything away from people into which they have already invested time. The intent instead is to give us time to get the new system up and running and to do so within a structure that makes sense given the recent story arc.
There will be changes in the new land system. At this time, there are no guarantees that things will work in any manner near to what the current system is like. We will post the new system rules with sufficient time for people to provide feedback. Of course if you already have suggestions for the new land system, please send them to We will consider each idea in turn.
Travance wasn't built in a day. Please bear with us as we work to bring you a new look at the land system.

just to clarify, though I think this is pretty clear, we don't need civil service to do one of the 4 listed civil actions, yes? Anyone can attempt then and mention the skill/ability/list they are doing to undertake the action, yes?

That is correct. Anyone may submit these four actions. If you have Civil Service and feel that it would help, please put that in the comments section.
As of right now we need to update the Civil Action Form, so please wait until AFTER the Awards Banquet to try. We will be adding Ostcliff to the form and reducing the options to the four listed. So please hold off for now. But soon this will be real.

Must a lord still direct the actions?

Short answer: No.
However a Lord who does direct the actions (or provides a suitable delegate to direct actions for them, like a Viceroy) may get better results out of their land than if they just let their vassals randomly do things. If you are a Lord and wish to assign a delegate, please email us at and also please post said assignment to either the Dragon's Claw board or to your Land Board. Such an assignment will stick until it is reversed by the Lord. Delegates may not assign a new delegate.
In the absence of such a message from the Lord it is less predictable what will happen. However, if the actions submitted by the vassals are coordinated by anyone they will still provide better results than if they are just randomly submitted.
We will be figuring out how much the lands are damaged and how many refugees each land has and will be able to provide that report by the awards banquet. The first round of these simplified actions will take place between the awards and the January event.

So do you have to be signed onto a land to help with this? (Yes stupid but I have to ask!)

Short answer: No.
Currently the Allegiance system and the Land system are separate.

It seems that the event is just around the corner, and the banquet just barely in the past. I wanted to bump this so that we can all remember on both ends ( what the players want to do, and that the system is set up for use before the event.)
...so... *bump*

Thanks for the bump. I know that many of the lands have been coordinating their actions and I hope to have a system online soon to receive those orders. I will post as soon as it is ready.

The new method of submitting actions is now available.
To do so you must log into the card system. View your character card and choose "Between Game Actions".
You are free to submit what ever action you want to try. Please put in the Target any specific buildings or type of refugees you are trying to assist and please put in the comments any Bonuses you think you should have in accomplishing this task. They do NOT have to be valid bonuses from the previous Land System... think about this as a suggestion box. But also please only choose the one that you think is MOST relevant.
You are free to change your action up until the Deadline which is the Friday before the next event. As of today the next deadline is 10 PM, Friday, January 17th.
This is also still a system very much in the progress of being built so if you encounter any problems please message me on Facebook or send me an email at

A word of caution about the "Cause Mayhem" action.
There is no way to detect this action currently within the Land System itself. As such the effect that causing mayhem is allowed to have will be fairly minimal in nature.
HOWEVER, should you be discovered to have done this action by some means while interacting with others at the game (perhaps you brag about them to the wrong person or are directly questioned about how you've been helping the land and you provide insufficient answers) these actions could be construed as injurious to the nobility that controls the land that the mayhem was caused in. Please keep in mind that Lords and Knights who discover such actions MAY in fact choose to punish your character.
The Land System will not be providing a list of mayhem causers. The Land System will neither confirm nor deny actions taken by anyone during this current month. This status may change in the future as the system grows and changes.
