Hello all!
Since it's the new year, we thought we would send out a quick refresher reminding you all that bardic spellsongs and musical performances - much like anything else in the game - should be atmosphere appropriate.
That being said, from this point forward, the RP Marshals will be actively discouraging the use of showtunes, current pop songs, and any other music that sounds obviously out of period; The structure and format of these kinds of songs have proven to be far too recognizable and often break immersion almost immediately for many, many players.
If you are unsure about a piece of music, the easiest way to guarantee that you're setting a good example is by sending it to a Role Play Marshal for evaluation BEFORE you bring it into game. We're pretty okay with modern music if you can make it *sounds* medieval or pre-victorian, so we might agree with you that it's really really cool and adds something to the world. But if you aren't sure, please ask us first.
We also absolutely encourage players to write their own atmosphere and period appropriate poems and songs. We've seen you guys show your creativity in so many ways -- by making your own costuming, props, backstories, and player connections -- So we would love for you to bring your musical passions into game as well!
There are lots of *resources here* to many celtic, folk, and ren faire songs, and plenty more around the internet.
If you think you have a cool resource link, do not hesitate to post it for other players to have a look at! We'll be sure to add it to the game resources webpage at a later date.

Please, be courteous to other players. Don't use anything that you think might draw someone out of their game experience.
Thank you for your cooperation!
