Family Friendly Festival – Sat August 27th!
This years Family Friendly Festival is Saturday August 27th!
Our family friendly festival is a laid back in-character party where we encourage players to come and also bring their children, or other family members to check out the community and have some fun with us!
We will be allowing the kids to run around with weapons and engage in combat. Please only engage them if you are able and willing to play along and fight them lightly, with the intent to help entertain them. Some instances obviously might cause you to hold your suspension of disbelief temporarily, but making kids smile is a generous reward, worthy of the brief pause from realistic atmosphere.
Price: There will be no admission fee for a Family Guest who is someone just coming up for this event and whom will not need a permanent card place in the KR database.
Regular players pay $30, and have the option to purchase up to five additional build for $10 each. Alts cost $10 and any additional build purchased goes to all characters paid for. Your characters will receive a base of four build for attending the festival.
Character Cards: Family guests choose a character template in the form of simplified stat cards. You are welcome to modify them slightly if your guest wants to play a different flavor than available. For example if you guest wants to play a druid, but there are only mage cards, cross out mage, write druid, cross out the mage spells, add a few druid ones. This is a lighthearted area of the festival and so anything within reason is fine.
Regular players will receive an attendance slip to use and hand in at the end of the festival. This slip will have space for everything that you have earned, in addition to space for any skills learned. You will be playing your character off of the honor system, and as such no PvP is allowed.
Time: Sign-in is between 10-Noon and will take place at a table near the Barn/Thrown Room Entrance. Noon is when official activities will start. We are welcoming people to come over Friday night if they so wish and camp out with their families. We will also be welcoming people to do the same Sat night into Sunday. If you come later than noon, just look for me, I will not be far from the main house.
Food: On Saturday during the day, we will be providing a BBQ style feast near the Inn. We encourage people to consider bringing some extra food of their own in case they have special needs or desires.
Pets: Are welcome on a limited basis, as long as it is cleared first in a private e-mail with the director guaranteeing responsibility for the pet and vouching for their friendly demeanor.
Language: We will encourage all of you to keep your language to a PG appropriate vocabulary. There will be small kids, and we would like to be courteous to them and the people who brought them. Its usually not an epidemic at the game or anything, but regardless If you find yourself accidentally cursing, stop yourself. Also if someone else is doing it give them a kind reminder that kids are present and this is a kid friendly event.
Kid Friendly Combat: There is no age restriction to the combat for this event, but everyone engaging the kids in combat should a) realize they are possibly going to be hit in an unsafe manor and b) be OK with this because hey they're kids, and also make sure you only hit them back with the absolute lightest touch.
Borrowing Equipment: If any of the one-time attendees need to borrow weapons or costuming from the NPC area, they may do so.
The Centralized Location. We will be using area outside the inn, as the centralized location for the festival. While there are things that will be further away such as the treasure hunt, we will mostly stay focused on this area. If you want to set up in your land, you may do so, but realize that you will be further away from the focal point of the festival, and so we encourage you to instead set up your areas near the Inn.
Full time NPCs: We could use full time NPC. Please contact us to let us know ahead of time if you will be full time NPC'ing. Full time NPCs will be getting the four base build for this event as well.
Volunteer NPC Shifts! We will in fact need NPCs for this festival. You can receive up to TWO extra build. One for each two-hour shift you sign up for. When you sign-in there will be an NPC shift volunteer sheet. Please ask to be signed up for slots to earn extra build and help the festival run smoother and be more entertaining for everyone!
Friday and Sunday: You are welcome to come to the camp on Friday and or stay on the camp some on Sunday.
On either day you will have a choice
1) Hang out and do nothing and enjoy the outdoors.
2) Work on a project that you want to work on that has been pre-approved by me (James/Owner) in return for Bonus SP
3) Work on a project that I ask you to work on for Bonus Build

Family Member Character Cards
:
Those who do not need to be entered into the permanent database can choose to use the below templates. They are altered versions of the KR rules meant for simplicity. They don’t follow the normal rules, but it really dosn’t matter much in this particular setting. These are the templates I will have printed out. Any race can be played, and if your child or relative is especially excited to play a character concept not on one of these, I am fine with you editing them slightly to fit a different concept. For that matter, if your child or relative wants to change cards mid-way through, thats fine too. These cards will already be printed out and available at the sign-in desk.
Healer/Warrior
- 10 Body Points
- Swings “2 Damage” with weapon
- Can “Cure” 2ce per battle (Heals all wounds, including people recently fallen)
- “Life Spell” Once ever the healer can bring someone back from being slain
Rogue/Warrior
- 10 Body points
- Swings “2 Damage” with weapon
- “Disarm Traps” Can disarm any trap after thirty seconds of RP
- “Set Traps” Can place a disarmed trap to do 10 Points of Damage.
- “Waylay” 1nce per battle (Knocks someone unconscious, must be from behind target)
Mage/Warrior
- 10 Body points
- Swings “2 Damage” with weapons
- Spell “Fireball” once per battle (“10 Fire”)
- Spell “Pin” once per battle (One of the targets feet is stuck to the ground, does not work on all creatures)
- Spell “Identify Magic” Continuous. If an item is magical, you can identify the properties of it.
Warrior (Focused)
- 20 Body Points
- Swings “4 Damage” with weapons
- “Crit 8 Damage” twice per battle
- “+2 Strength” This can be used to throw something or someone twenty feet in a non-combat setting, or to lift something that is supposed to be heavy with greater ease.

Since it wasn't mentioned, and I don't recall doing it in the past, I assume SP to build isn't happening either?
Didn't think so but wanted to make sure.
Also, is the 2 build for NPCing applied to both characters, similar to bought build? Or do you pick which character it goes on?

For festivals, no SP conversion.
Will the Crafting Table be set up, like last year?

I do love getting beat up by children, so I may attend if things line up. Some quick inquires:
1) What are the specific times we will be allowed to be "in game" as our PCs?
2) Will we be able to learn any skills during this event? If so, will they be on our cards for the coming September event?

This sounds adorable. Weather depending, my boyfriend and I (who are 100% coming to the September 30th-October 2nd event) might come to this family event and just NPC for experience/to get the lay of the land at a 1 day event before we're there for a whole weekend.
Is that allowed if we haven't done a regular event yet? My brother (Seth/Kurteth on the board) did the last event, so technically we fit under the "friends and family" heading, but we don't want to take character cards or anything like that. Just NPC, have some fun, get the feel, help out, etc.
If that's cool, how far in advance do you need to know? Above you wrote to email in advance, but if we find out Friday night that we're available to do it, is that too late, or should we message at that time since NPCs are always needed?
Also, if we were planning on bringing stuff (I'm in the midst of spell packet creation and he got some red ribbon since we were told that was needed), should we bring that this time, or save it for when we're coming to PC?
Thanks for always putting up with so many questions! We just wanna get this down pat

Speaking as a Monster Marshal, we always need NPCs. We don't need any sort of advanced notice; just show up and let us know! A couple things to remember:
-Wear dark, plain clothes that you can move around it
-Drink water
-Don't forget to eat

Sasha,
NPCing before you make your first PC is definitely allowed and also encouraged! As with regular, weekend-long events, it's free to NPC. We'll give you a card to keep track of any build you earn before you make your own character.
Yes, you can bring donations to the festival and they'll write down the Service Points on your card. Also, when you come to game to PC, make sure you earn at least 400 SP per event. It'll let you double the build you earn for attending events, which helps a lot your first 10 events (you earn 4 event build your first three, 3 the next three, 2 the 3 after that, and 1 on and on and on).

Ghosts are pale apparitions of people who have long since died. Usually if a ghost appears it is because of some great injustice done to them or some tragic event surrounding their death. Ghosts generally are not dangerous although they can radiate a chilling aura. Some Ghosts can be seen as a translucent apparition, while others choose to be completely unseen. They have been known to manipulate small objects in our world through great concentration. There are also a few rare recordings of ghosts that are both hostile and have mastered their abilities in a clever manor allowing them to be more dangerous than the common ghost.GhostGhosts are pale apparitions of people who have long since died.
