For Sale: Vial of Light Physreps

Hello friends,
I will be selling Vial of Light Physreps at the October event market faire. You may have seen a few around at the September event. This post is mainly to see how many I'll need to make. One of these fine products can be yours for only $5.

Pictures? Brightness? Longevity?

They're super great. I'm glad I got one. For future batches, may I suggest using a softer color, like yellow? Many folk have night vision issues and a yellower light would be far more pleasant.

I'd be interested in grabbing one.

Good point. Either this or a guide on how to modify them for a KR appropriate light source.

I am working on a way to color the light. As for the already existing ones you could wrap it with a sheer cloth and rubber band. Most of the shine comes straight from the light itself at the neck so covering that would cut that down.

As for longevity the packaging says they should last for about 8 hours. You can turn them on and off with a twist of the cap. The cap does come off to access the 3 watch batteries.

Alternatively, you can paint the bottle with a light coat of orange or yellow

I have a whole bunch of photogels you could cut and tape over the LEDs, if you'd be so inclined.

I played around with one of these last event; it definitely has some potential. A couple things I noticed that could be improved on:

1) make the stem of the bottle opaque. This will serve to force the light to diffuse through the bottle and prevent the light from directly shining out. No light escaping directly means nobody complaining about getting light in their eyes.

2) have more fill in the bottle. Translucent colored plastic beads or gems would work without blocking the light. This will both dim the light and color it for a less aggressive glare.

Where you are now is a great starting point, I'm excited to see what improvements you make on this solid idea!

My favorite part is that you could grab the neck of the bottle, and the light shining through the bottom was directional like a flashlight. That was neat, and great for navigating the path to the blood spirits. Does the cap come off easily or is it glued in there?

You can also very easily replace the LED with a red one. Stay away from "blue"/white colors as they destroy night vision almost instantly.

I would love to get one of you can get the tinting to be more of a bright red or orange. Also if the battery could be replaced with a rechargable tiny battery, that would be amazing (course price would change to reflect that).

I too purchased one and did the same thing! The only time I didn't clutch the neck to funnel the light (as to not blind others, or because I was hunting for something on the ground) was when I'd let it sit on a table so I could read by its light-- which was awesome atmosphere for me .

I too will be tying a bit of fabric around the neck for next game in case I need to use it on the road.

Thank you all for the suggestions. They have definitely helped me to make a better product. This next set of lights are going to be made of plastic, so no more fear of breaking during combat. An added bonus to the plastic is that they are lighter. The downside of the plastic is there is no neck and the bottom is not flat. There will be some more filler inside of the bottles. The lights themselves are on order, so I am unable to try anything with them. However, I was thinking of using red marker on the lens. I can upgrade existing vials at the next event.

That's a shame about the neck and bottom, but it also presents other opportunities. Cooking up ideas on how to make it standable...

Simple. The filler can act as a weight.

Are you selling them IG with item cards or do we need to find those on our own? (Just as a curiosity)

To those that buy them just remember that vial of light only lasts for 30 min IG so you'll need a bunch of the item cards.

My character is an Alchemist and I can provide the item cards. With the purchase of the physrep (5 Baronial Notes) I will give one item card with it. Beyond that I sell the item card for 1 gold.
The 30 min time limit is precisely why I wanted to make the physrep. It says you can use a glow stick but those are one time use and last for several hours.

Awesome. I may definitely hit you up. I have a lantern but sometimes it's a pain to carry and a vial is lighter!

I'm sure some of the casters in town would want to use them as a prop for their light spell too! : ) just my two cents

I certainly would.

I'd like to see a red (or orange one,) but I might pick one up for Power of Fire Light, as Adam says.
