Hi! My name is Chelsea and I am sooooo excited that I stumbled across KnightRealms! I've been looking for something like this for awhile and this by far looks like the "funnest" larp near me. I loved looking thru the picture gallery at all the costumes and the way people decorate their spaces and such. It just looks like a place I need to be haha.

So after throughly reading thru the website, and there is a LOT of info here, I think I've decided to create a Barbarian character. I was looking thru their available professions, and Smithing caught my eye. I've read elsewhere on the site that Smiths don't have a lot of combat, that they are mostly RP. I guess my question is, do Smiths have to be low combat?

Both combat and RP interest me, for different reasons. There are few things that are more fun than bopping you're friends around with a boffer, but I also like doing stuff with my hands, crafting or whatever.

I am also thinking of either the Ranger or Warrior professions to start with.

Any advice will be most welcome. I look forward to seeing you in person!!

Really, no matter what you class, how much combat you engage in is completely up to you - the list just determines how effective you would end up being in said combat.  Now with Smith, you have access to combat abilities, so if you want to get more involved, go for it.  Nothing saying you couldn't.  And if you wanted to be even more combat active, you could always pick up another heavier-combat profession down the line, as dual-classing is certainly a possibility.

Hope that helps!

Yay! Another Barbar :D Me being a Barbarian myself, it is lots of fun to RP a big drunk brute, and adding to what Elawyn said, at some point your going to be in combat, you can't really work your way around it, unless you have a reason, to young, health issues, yadda yadda yadda, but most likely you'll be with the rest of us, but I guess it just all depends on what you like more, the RP or combat. You could always have good RP with a more combat active person, and a more combat active profession helps out more when you do get attacked, but it's all up to you. Just nice to see another Barbarian, and a girl at that too!

Let me amplify the previous post.  For him, it is fun to "RP a big drunk brute,"  while that might not be how others wish to portray their foreigner (which is, after all, the literal translation of "barbarian."  You bring to your character the persona you believe will allow you to bring her alive and be fun to do at the same time.  Sometimes, you may incorporate part of yourself into the PC.  Every Barb is drunk and loud, nor every Rogue subtle - wear what fits.

NOT Every Barb is drunk and loud, nor every Rogue subtle - wear what fits.

I believe thats what you meant to say Charlie.  I agree wholeheartedly as well, particularly seeing as how my own Celt PC doesn't follow all the "typical" Celt traits of being a dumb drunken lout, and yet still pulls off all the Racial Requirements - as long as you follow the race rules, you are good.

And please, Elawyn is my character, my name is Kristen - we're out of game on these boards, so real names are what matters.  Thanks. :)

Correct, Kristen.  Matt, you are indeed blind.  Sam, as usual, is perspicacious.  I've been saving that word for a while.
