Hi, New player here.

Hi, my brother and his friends have talked me into joining.  I use to play ampgard.  I am also a Star Wars costumer with the 501st Imperial Legion, and a civil war reenactor. 

I want to play a dwarven healer.  Trying to start on my back story, doing ok on that.  Hoping to start in October.  I would go in September, but it is my son's 4th birthday that weekend.  Really looking forward to starting out.

Nice to meet you. 

Not sure what else I need to do before I go the first time.  I have my character figured out and a history written.  I have my garb from ampgard which should work.  I was wondering if I should have anything else.

Hi Katie first let me start by saying welcome to Knight Realms. There are links on the left hand side of the page that help new players if you want to have a look at those. If you have any in-depth questions about anything, I would suggest asking one of our awesome rules marshalls, they are always helpful to those who need it. Don't mean to disagree w/my DSW, but DSW, Katie did sign both her posts.  I believe I read OOG - Katie at the end of each, underneath the line where we all have our signatures that show up with every post we send...?

When she figured out how to add it, it added it to ALL her posts automatically... including old ones, retroactively.

Welcome to the boards, Katie!  Don't be afraid to look around - there's a LOT of information here, but we try to make it a point to put everything on the website, so there are no secrets, nothing hidden, and nothing you need to learn the "hard way."  Only In-Game secrets don't make it online... and even then, sometimes someone posts them!

On a more serious note, welcome Katie!  I have only done two weekend events, but I can tell you, KR is incredibly awesome and I wish I had started YEARS ago!   So, yea... WELCOME!

I apologize - the Fr. Shepard comment is a very in thing, of which only around 5 KR players know.  Suffice it to say, Geoff played a vampire that would put a priest of Glom to shame/  He seemed like such a nice priest....

Do you have any real-life skills or hobbies you can bring over as a Trade to your PC?  Cooking, sewing, carpentry, etc?  A lot of people make stuff OOG, that they use as trading material In-Game at the Market Faire.

Ah, Geoff played a good vampire in World of Darkness.  Sort of like Iogo saying "good, honest Iogo."

I am a very good baker, I also started learning to cook over a fire almost 20 years ago.  I make great doughnuts.  Chris (Bran) says I have to make my pumpkin bread to take with me.  I also was a medic in the army, so I am quite good in real life dealing with injuries.

There is nothing saying you cannot submit your character history right away.  The only ruling on Character Histories is the following:

"Your character's history must be submitted to the Director no more than two months after you begin playing it, and must be approved before you may act upon anything contained in it."

That being said, it might be good practice to experience your first event as your new character before committing to the history.  This will give you a chance to understand the world a little better, as well as help you make the decision if you are, in fact, playing the race and class you would really like to month after month.  In the end it's your choice and you should choose what makes you most comfortable.

Please note that the character histories are not always approved right away, so it could be a bit of time before you can act on anything out of the ordinary you may have written in it.  You can always ask a staff member or Rules Marshal what is or is not acceptable when you arrive.
