So the March Alt event is going to be my first game. I'd like to participate (and try out a higher level than a starting character), however as I understand it all loot and rewards you earn will go towards one of your characters. I won't have my first character ready to go by then (or at least some of the starting gear). So do I get the loot on my then nonexistent first character or do I just lose it?
And my second question is in regard to the Calimacil crossbows. Is anyone familiar with them? Are they approved for use at KR?
Thanks all!

Everyone starts out as a new PC - you can't choose to play as a high level PC at your first game. This is part of being fair to everyone... we were all 1st level at some point, including the people who are now the Lords and Knights. Everyone started at the beginning, and earned their way.
You can gain Build by NPCing for a while, but NPCing is playing an NPC - not playing what you want to play. You take the roles given to you by the Marshals running the game or the NPC Shift at the time. You do not gain any items ("Loot") you get to keep, since you are not playing a PC. Shifting items between PCs or NPCs you play is metagaming, and against the rules.
Build you gain from NPCing, making donations, etc. goes towards your PC - if you haven't made one yet, you can hang onto the Build until you begin. A bunch of people have NPCed for a few months - even a few years! - before making their PC. But when they begin the game, they come in at Level 1 like everyone else, and then must learn their skills the first time like everyone else too. They advance a lot more quickly, but it's still the same starting point.

Hello and welcome. If i understand correctly you will be coming in at the alt weekend. During this event all players play a character of around level 5. If you dont yet have a pc, any loot you get during the alt event is for whenever you do make a pc. Hope this helps.

OH - That makes total sense. Yes, the Alt event is an exception.
