Hello All!

I've just gotten back from my first KR even and must say I am in love. My name is Kate and look forward to attending many more events. I have one question though, for all those gypsies out there, how does one practice or even learn to speak with Romanian accent? Thank you in advance!

... I just happened to glance down at the bottom of the forum page.... Did you register for the forum on your birthday?  If so, welcome aboard, happy birthday, and I'm personally very glad that you had fun.

I think one of the best ways to learn an accent, is to immerse yourself in it for a while.  Rent movies where people are speaking in the accent you are looking to try, if your family is Romanian, or you have any friends who already speak with that accent, listen to them for a while.  After that, it really just comes down to practice.

I suspect that no one will ever berate you if your accent is not quite so good in the beginning - As you practice it, it will get better and richer, and we all know this.

Russian and other eastern European accents have alot of similarities, so if you're relying on movies for lack of real people to listen to, I'd suggest broadening your scope by including those. What you'll get will be plenty authentic for KR and you'll have alot more examples to work with.

Brother Kwildar,

Thank you for the birthday wishes, but I'm afraid that was a mistake on my part. My birthday isn't until Dec 5, I just got the month and the day twisted for some reason

Another great way to pick up a Gypsy accent for this game is to listen to Ravanna (Amber) talk.  At least two of the other gypsies in Travance (including myself) picked up our accents by listening to her.

If you can learn to do Borat, but without the broken english, you have an accent similar to Romanian.

Don't forget to IDEA, the International Dialects of English Archive. It's in the web links section off the main website. There you'll find people from russian, romania, and ukrane speaking english, but with their native accent. Third link from the top.

More Gypsies! Sweet!

Sorry I didn't catch this thread earlier...

When I started I never used an accent.  My bad on the RP.  Then one event I was hanging out with some gypsies who had great accents, I felt bad and out of place for not trying.  So I listened to them and tried to replicate their accents.  So hang out with gypsies! You'll pick it up in no time.

Besides, all you have to do is use a lot of "z"s and talk like you have a mouth full of cotton.  ;)
