Constructing Brigandine Armor.... was created by Galstaus Nightwolf (galstaus)
I am considering making my own Brigandine Armor on my own... I plan on constructing it with deerskin leather and riveted steel plates, similar to the armor William Wallace wore in Braveheart. Has anyone ever made any of this armor on their own that can lend me a few pointers? Thanks in advance for your time and help!

I know im a little late on this response but maybe use something a little tougher than deerhide becauae the stress from steel plates may tear/pull thru deer

Much of the original leather armor was of two sorts - that made from thick leather boiled with was and that made from thick leather, unboiled.. The plates were in all instances (of quality armor) riveted to the leather, or attached via a grommet with rivet construction.

I agree with Laertes. Deer skin though soft and supple for comfort will not hold up for armor base as you intend
I would use at least 7 or 8 OZ cowhide

Thanks for the information everyone! I think this project may be a little out of my comfort zone... I may just have to buck up and buy the armor!
