Hello! After several weeks of searching and considering, I have decided to try going to my first LARP. I've been playing pen and paper games for years, probably over a decade, so role-playing isn't something new to me. I would say this is all part of the natural progression of role-playing
I have two friends who are helping me with the rules. I have very little in the way of Kit, so any advice would be extremely appreciated - most options I've found are rather expensive. I plan to plan to start in October so I have enough time to get all my stuff together. Look forward to meeting new folks!
Thanks,
-Brian H.

Hey Brian. My name is Conor and I'm a New Player Marshal.
You don't have to worry to much about costuming your first event, if you wear something that doesn't have OOG logos we can lend you a rabbits and weapon to borrow.
There are also a bunch of costuming tips, like turning a normal shirt into a period style shirt. If you want to do some searching.
Nice to meet you and see you in October!!!

YOU POSTED!! Brian is an absolutely amazing roleplayer and a friend of myself and Cam/Veor, and we're going to do our best to help him with the rules, getting the skeleton of a character created, and so forth.
Brian, the Marshals (and the entire playerbase) here are extremely helpful, and will be able to assist you with pretty much any question you have in the meantime!
Also, set aside a lot of socks.

I told you I would, Bee!
Thank you for the welcome post, Conor. You'll be hearing from me a lot over the next month I'm sure. Im going to start looking into fleshing the character out and picking up at least a few things for the costuming. Also, apparently socks.

Hi, Brian!
I'm Jeff, also a New Player Marshal. Conor is right, though. Don't worry about your costume all that much. Check out the guy on the left:
i.imgur.com/MgwVnl7.jpg
That white-clad warrior-looking guy is me on my first event a little over two years ago. When I say don't worry about your costume, you should worry more than I did.
I didn't bring one.
Fortunately for me, my friends were veterans and one of them had a spare that he let me borrow. The belt was a gift from my friend Eddie and I borrowed the sword from Logistics. Nowadays, I have all my own stuff, but focus on the roleplay and you'll be fine.
Your costume will improve over time and if Cameron or Beth haven't yet told you about it, there's a neat group on Facebook dedicated to costuming. People post things they've made all the time, or websites that teach you handy things. If you need something made, you can post there and one of the many crafty larpers will offer to do a commission. It'd be just the thing if you're looking for pieces that won't break the bank. Do a search for "Knight Realms Costumers Forum."
Also, Beth is right. Bring PLENTY of socks.
Anyway, it would seem your reputation precedes you and I look forward to seeing you in October! No pressure!

I'll echo what Jeff (Nalik) said. Your first costume will not be your last. As one of those crafty people on the costuming forum I generally prefer to build my character's clothing in the mindset of the character. This can mean having one or two pieces that they always have with them... focus pieces. Or it can mean picking a color or a style of clothing that is "them". Then as you find things work or don't work you will adjust and eventually you'll be picking up things to add to your kit that your character wants, not what you want.
Welcome to Knight Realms.

Hello Brian,
I'm John, one of the Safety Marshals and I hope we get to meet and talk on an IC level and non-professional OOC level.
Costuming, as has been said, takes time to acquire and get to a point you are happy with it. In helping get clothing and items for both myself and others, it can be said Goodwill Shops are a excellent source for shirts, belts, the occasional bag and other things.
With a bit of creative eye, I am certain such a place can cough up something you can use/need. As an example, one trip we found an excellent leather biker vest which became bodyarmor for my fiancé and one time we found a skirt in blackwatch pattern which became a mantle for a cloak I use.
Keep eyes open as well as mind- and good hunting!
As for other things... Footwear can be a thing. The camp is fairly level but there are places where I'd recommend study shoes or good boots. Your toes will thank you....
Oh.... and remember to bring plenty pair of socks. Its a thing around here, it truly is... and moreso in the winter.
