Buying Missed Events as a New Player was created by Grumpy (Bookwyrm)
I've only had one paid event so far. I missed both the Alt Event and the regular March event. I know I can buy those events retroactively, since I've had one paid event so far, but I have two questions about that.

One, does that count as base build? As in, that much allowed when converting SP?

Two, either way, does that count as previously purchased, and so can be used with a partial rewrite of a new character?

Mind you, I don't know if I'll buy those events because of money, or what I might rewrite at the moment. I want to talk to some people about the latter in particular. Might need to talk to an ST, too.

Main: Grigori the grumpy healer, adopted member of the Tribe of Berk, adviser to Chief Darius Redmaw.
Alt: Dorian White, physician and alchemist for hire.
Alt: Ruy Sanchez de Castor y Ortiz, the best swordsman in all of Coast Haven!

Hey, Bowman!

Apologies for the delay--I just wanted to confirm a few things first.

1. Yes, it certainly does count as base build and you will receive the matching build at the appropriate SP cost. It will not add to your events attended.

2. Yes, it can be used with a rewrite.

If you need any more help, let us know!

Thanks! I will be trying to figure out what I might want to rewrite this week. Is it best to handle a rewrite on-site, or email someone? If the latter, who?

It's best to handle it as soon as possible, which would mean via e-mail or Facebook. That way, you have more time before the event to make sure that--at least on paper--your character looks the way you want them to look. You would want to contact either a New Player Marshal or a Card Marshal. Keep your eyes peeled. There's a guy around here who's both of those!

As it turns out, the Alt Event didn't count for service point conversion. It was still slightly cheaper than just buying the same amount of build, though.

I'm pretty sure you also get a Self-Teach with the Alt Event buyback though, so that's a bonus!

If I recall correctly, there was a maximum 2 build SP conversion from the Alt Event and yes, Adam is correct that you get a Self-teach.

Well, James said there was only a +2 buy, not a conversion, and I didn't get a retroactive self-teach. I got a lesson for what I was after anyway (Deflect), so I'm only out the SP to have the Fate of Wisdom, which I didn't wind up using at all anyway.

Actually, the only skill I used the whole event was Heal Life, when an NPC that totally didn't look like Oros came though a portal in the Inn already 25 seconds from crit. (I heard the word "crit" on a First Aid assess and didn't stop to think further. I really must learn my skills better. Oh well, I healed him, that's what counts.)

After this round of cards gets updated, I'll make sure the Self Teach is added to your card. I'd add it right now, but I don't want to possibly confuse whoever has your card by making modifications to it.

Quote from the relevant page:

www.knightrealms.com/events/event-inform.../356-alt-events.html

If you pay the PC price for the weekend you gain +6 build for your regular character and can automatically learn a single skill without a teacher, as per the same rules as the Awards Banquets or Moresca Ball. You will also be allowed to PC your regular character from when the alt plot ends Saturday night. Your PC may still earn additional build for Lifestyle and RP points, and may also convert up to 200 SP to Build, regardless of their current build blanket. Secondary PCs follow the normal rules (i.e. - Pay $20, they will gain full build for the event, as well as any additional build purchased for your main PC).

Should I put in a request about fixing a problem with my card once it's updated? That seems simpler than trying to mess with it in other ways, and keeps things in the official channels already designed for this sort of thing.

Yup! That way if your card hasn't been updated yet, the person who has your card will be notified that it should be on there. If not, it'll be updated and the ticket will be there for one of the Card Marshals to resolve. Either way you'll end up with the self-teach!
