Hi, so I'm not a new player. I played a handful of events from summer 2014 to mid-2015. Talking to my friend that still goes, a lot has changed. I heard things about item rewriting, and a while ago there was something about being able to write Race when there was a race rework. I go onto my card on the site and the points, gold, and stuff is still there but no traits or anything. I'm now level -7 with 93 build total and 93 unspent build. So, the real question is, what do I need to do or update before I go the next time. Am I doing a full RetCon character rewrite? And what do I have to do with my current items? Thanks in advance!

Hi, Nick! Welcome back.

The way level is calculated, changed as well. Character levels are no longer sky-high, even among players who've been playing nearly since the game's inception. That's why you're temporarily level -7 but fret not, that will be resolved as soon as you rewrite your character.

It's not a RetCon as far as your character's personality and identity goes, but nearly all of the skills and abilities were changed around. Instructions on how to rewrite are listed neatly here on this page:
docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSeZcBkw...L8go479-RGA/viewform

If you have any difficulties, I am one of the members of your friendly neighborhood Card Team and would be happy to assist if needed.

Gather up your item cards. This first link is a spreadsheet detailing what they're worth:
docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1n0qR_ofl...B5NTKwng3f0/htmlview

The next link is another spreadsheet with the new items you'll be able to purchase once your current items are turned in:
docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1MlPdkqdU...8EtIL4uF4/edit#gid=0

Times and locations when a member of Staff will be on-hand to help with your item conversion should be announced closer to the event.

If you have any other questions, I'm also here to field those. Otherwise, I'll see you at the event, buddy!

-Jeff

I think you made a mistake with the link for the item values, it is the same link as the item purchasing sheet. Maybe I’m mistaken. Thanks!

You're right, I did make a mistake there. Thank you for the correction!

Thanks for the help! Few questions:
Can I change my race? Although my OG race of halfing kind of fits, the RP reqs have changed and reading through a Vaceti Coastadori fits my costuming and character morals(well lack thereof) much better.
Has the teaching and learning system disappeared completely? Is everything self-taught for build prices?(I read about the increasing cost of build)
I assume I'm entitled to all 93 build my character had before the rule re-write?
Thanks in advance!!

Yes, along with your race and as with all previous rewrites, you're allowed to change any aspect of your character.

You may have been here for the change, but Master Teach and Teach merged into Teach; you can teach any amount of people present for the lesson.

Skills are still learned from another character, unless your character knows at least one instance of the skill.

Yes, you're entitled to your full build amount.

Sorry still a little confused, should be last questions.
Am I allowed to learn other other classes during the rewrite?
Is teach a skill? If it is, I can't find it anywhere, just Professor which seems to be Master Teach 2.0. I'm mostly asking just to clarify what I will have to do if I need to learn something/who I must find.

Yes, you can learn other classes. The only rule about having multiple classes, is that you need to spend at least 50 build into your first class before learning an additional one.

Teach is no longer a skill; if your character knows a skill, they're considered able to teach it.

Don't worry about it. Even if you have more questions, I'll still be here for ya.

Final things: I submitted the sheet and followed all the instructions.
One, I changed my character's name, will that be an issue?
Two, will the race traits/skills be automatically added to my card. I assume so as there was no option to add them but correct me if I'm wrong.
Three, I have no idea how to contact Nick Hertia but as an assassin, the sheet says I have access to puncture but the rule book says otherwise. I don't know if that was a new addition or a mistake but just to make you guys aware there's possibly an issue.

Thanks for all the patience Jeff!

P.S. I was going through my few old posts and one mentioned a that I NPC'd with a group of undead gypsies and a singing wraith. I'm almost certain you were our wraith. If so, thanks for that as well because I still laugh about it.

A change in character name will not be an issue; if it's not reflected on your card in the end, it's quite possibly the simplest card fix that exists.

When you have an actual card, yes; I've never personally had one of Nick's spreadsheets for myself, so I can't speak to that. However, members of Card Staff will be on-site Friday night leading up to lay-on and will be able to make notes on your card if needed, even if it's written in pen.

The rule of thumb is to default to what the Rulebook says. I'll message Nick and see what he thinks of the issue--in the meantime, thank you for bringing it to our attention.

Yes, I was the singing wraith. Larry sent me out; I only wish I weren't as self-conscious back then.

Sorry if I wasn't clear, the error is in the sheet. I definitely should not have access to puncture but it allowed me to put it on my sheet anyways. Just wanted to mention it just in case someone accidentally adds it.

You never struck me as self-conscious, I looked up to you as the guy that knew what he was doing and was funny. Don't get so down about your past as others see you different than you see yourself.

Thank you so much! It may not be the first time it's happened, but it's the first time someone's told me that they looked up to me. Now I'm realizing that there are possibly many more who currently do and that's a humbling thought.

Also, after hearing about it, Nick fixed the issue in seconds because that's the kind of wizard he is.

Lol the most final thing... I will have to come up late to the event, specifically, Saturday morning. Do I need to contact someone about that? I also have to do the item turn-in and all that good stuff so that may change something.
Beds in the barn and inn are usually an issue in the summer months as they're taken quickly. Any recommendations on sleeping arrangements for Saturday night? Should I get in touch with one of the lands about beds/what are your suggestions about that?

Thanks again!

Closer to the event, I'll poke around about beds and see which ones are still available and contact you about that.

You don't need to contact anyone about showing up late. Just show up; if you play for 12 hours or fewer, your NPC shift is 2 hours instead of 4. You will still need to get signed off for a clean-up assignment either way.
