Did I strike the correct tone of conciliation?

Charlie... You do realize that the U.S. is also ex-British Empire, yes?
yeah, but we never got a sunset ceremony... I feel cheated.... besides, I don't think Canada is ex-British... they still swear loyalty to the Queen, don't they?

I had a class at UDE, a then requirement for a degree with distinction (Aced the course, but missed the cumulative average). This one was Great English Debates, and one of the topics was the Divine Right of Kings. Naturally, I was on the pro side. My team's argument, delivered by me, dressed for the period (early 17th century) took 10 seconds of our allotted 5 minutes:
"Rex summa Dei gratia!" For the great unwashed, "We are King by the grace of God."
Our opponents were struck dumb by our effrontery. We kicked and won handily.
Of course, that particular king in question, Charles I, eventually lost the argument, and more importantly, his head. Interestingly, I bear his name - Charles Stuart.

Drow general (after finding and healing Cinder): "Should we allow you to live?"
Cinder: "Yes, allow me to live."
Drow: "What will you do if we let you go?"
Cinder: "Well, now that I know all of your faces, I will hunt you down and kill every one of you."
Drow: "Alright men, kill him again."
