My mother just bought me a pretty epic fur vest that is filled with barbarian goodness, but makes for a very nicely (and civilized ) "fur-lined" look when flipped inside out.im so glad i play a barbarian and can layer up with fur!

Just to watch myself type it again, from the skin out: silk, light wool, coton (if it is not raining) and a cloak will keep you warm - period. If you still feel cold, throw in a fleece.
Wool socks.
I wore but a LS silk T, and a cotton shirt with a lightweight cloak and was warm except when I dashed out to save the stray McBane or Yahtzi in my nightshirt and boots.

The rooms in the Inn are always overcrowded, with the small 6 bunk room routinely having 10-12 people staying in it. They are no fun whatsoever.

I didn't have a space heater (though my CPAP looks like one), I just have a REALLY good sleeping bag... I was actually so warm I was sweating slightly in the back... imagine my surprize when I woke up to the snowpacolypse! Climing up out out of the tent that morning through the snow wasn't terribly fun, neither was getting the stakes out.
Nowadays I live in the mages guild... sure I'm going to get killed one morning or evening walking to and from it (almost did once, got 4 minutes into it when someone found a healing salve on me), but that's why I have my scroll making book constantly copying invisibility scrolls... helps for Sac events.
I WAS thinking of enclosing a pavillian with burlap and putting a space heater in the center for the church of Chronicler... but I never got around to it.

Which tent brand did you use? The more and more I think about this, and knowing a majority of our winter events are usually at Sac and the large numbers of players we have coming in... I may want to try the tent idea.
Anyone here with lots of camping experience care to comment on preferred tent brands, ease of set-up, waterproofing, and thermal/warmth retention?

Awesome tents at Tentsmiths! If you want a more contemporary tent, I'd recommend checking out Campmoor and Sierra Trading Post's catalogs/websites; they both carry good quality tents, and STP has good buys as well. Also, Eureka tents (in Eureka NY) has a "blow-out" end of season/seconds sale in late January? We got a great 4-person, 3-season "second" tent there for almost 1/2 price and all that was wrong with it was they replaced a zipper pull and that made it a second!? I'd tent to stay away from tents at Wally World or K-Mart, unless it was a brand name, like Coleman.

If worse comes to worse and we are at SAC this winter, I will be tenting in the aforementioned tent with an air mattress. With a sleeping bag on top of the mattress, two sets of doubled flannel sheets (me between the pair) two wool blankets and the option of an afgan of concealment, I know I can handle below freezing weather. If the temperature really plummets, there are the two deer hides - quite warm. Room for three others.
