MITHRIL AUCTION was created by Clove (Mark)
Recently I have come across two full bars of mithril, the market price of this is 40 gold. However, I will be selling it to the highest bidder, please post your bids here and the auction will end on the Friday before the next feast at noon or on the off chance that the highest bid reaches 80 gold.

As per the Trade Regulations:
The Travancian definition of Merchant:
A Merchant is considered an individual who receives coin in exchange for goods and/or services.
A person who holds an auction would fall under this definition.
Therefore I submit that no transaction take place until a number of things can be verified. According to my records, Emar does not hold a merchant license.
Once this has been straightened out, a post will follow.

You are correct Zahir, I do not curently have any license. I was hoping to speak with you in person before any gold changed hands. Ill be in the inn most of the time in the night and early mornings, but not during the day, the recent drow activity has me sleeping during those daylight hours. Once again, I was hoping to keep this a little more private but what's done is done. Please speak with me as soon as possible.

You wanted to keep this private, but you posted a public auction of a rare and treasured commodity on the wall of the Inn for all to see, in an attempt to make as much profit as possible? In all capital letters for your notice, no less?
I think you are confused as to the meaning of "Private."

A question...
By the wording of the definition, anyone who receives coin in exchange for a good or service is a merchant. Therefore, if a warrior who slays a creature, takes it's claw as a memento and then sells it to a wizard or mage because they wanted it for an ingredient in some odd magic... does that mean the warrior has to get a license just for that 1 transaction?

I cannot answer for the Chancellor, but the example you gave is logically valid. I discussed the same point from a different direction with several others. Occam's razor is ever sharp.

Is Occam the Chancellor's enforcer of trade rules? Can this person answer the question then, or by the razor, are all disputes settled by combat?

Occam (also spelled Ockham) was a Scholar specializing in the Divine and a leading proponent of using logic to resolve discrepancies. Had you applied yourself more assiduously to your studies of the Trivium, you would have recognized his name.

If you are offering classes in the Trivium, I can direct you to my home village far from here where you can start up another academy. The children back near my home learned first how to defend themselves and then learned to offer productive skills to ensure the existence of the community. Not all were required to study, as keeping food on the tables, tools repaired, and walls upright were more important. Such advanced learning wasn't offered.

Bring up to 6 of the children from your village, along with an adult chaperone. They will be welcome at St. Anselm's where their room and board will be taken care of, so long as they apply themselves to their studies.

I would make no adult, let alone 6 children and 1 adult chaperon travel the Drow-infested woods. Have you forgotten the dangers that surround Travance now? I also have no desire to pull 6 children from their families.
However, we stray from the original intent of this... as my question was to the Chancellor of Trade (or his representative) regarding this matter. As a man-at-arms and 1 who sells his blade, I would know what formalities I must perform in order to properly maintain my position. I would not be Rei if I did not make sure that my position was upon good standing.
