Increased patrols, more alert guards. More attention and more traps at the wood lines; nothing was going to cause more harm to the citizens. No one was willing to allow it. It was unclear how they snuck through, but even through the town-wide coordinated effort an enemy force of Kingdom soldiers snuck through and attacked Enzarond. Rumors say there was a sinister dark force during the attack, and when the Empire soldiers came, it fled back into the witchwood, any Kingdom soldiers still alive and able escaped with it. No one seemed to know what the creature was, but found on one of the dead Kingdom soldiers was a note from the Knights of Kormyre -- the resistance group that recently cropped up in town. Enzarond took the letter, but it was clear to anyone around that it was a coded message and he intended to find out what it said.
Two days later, Enzarond returned with information from the message, noting it was a battle plan for when to attack. They knew Balliol was going to be in town soon and planned an attack for shortly before midnight, as the letter had said. The town would have to prepare for this attack and protect the Duke.
