NO Firewood for Festival (Please do not bring) was created by geezer (geezer)
This has been approved by James C. Kimball

There is a working fireplace at the Festival site.  We need firewood.  If you can definitely bring some, you will receive SPs for so doing.  I plan on arriving early (and starting the fire), so bring what you have to the site.

On a side note, relating to cold weather, fire, warmth and the like...

Which weather forecast location should we use to gauge what to wear and bring for the December event.  Is the Oak Springs location closer to Sparta (aka Camp Sac) or to White Haven (aka Daddy Allen) in terms of weather that we list on the website?

Thank you.

That's what she said... (it had to be done).

Also, as mentioned, I will do my best to bring some since the commute is so short for me.

Firewood has previously been available at the campground for a reasonable rate. I can't vouch that that is the case at the moment, but I have no reason to think the situation has changed, either.

Also, most parks these days ask you to restrict the importation of firewood to the local supply. There's a pest (the Asian Boring Beetle, or something like that) that has been killing off trees throughout the eastern United States, and rangers and conservationists are anxious to prevent its spread. It's unlikely you're going to get caught illegally trafficking in firewood, but compliance with the policy is for the good of the environment.

Also, if we need, I can bring two 42 cup coffee urns if we want to be ambitious about our love for coffee... let me know if you want me to bring at least one or both.  They are not donations, but we can use them this event as public use.

I personally love coffee, and no matter how many layers I wear am always freezing, so I know personally I would love coffee, and love whoever brought it.  ;D

Wholly crap I forgot! Please do not bring firewood. The ranger does not allow us to bring it in, we have to buy it from him. Its cheap, but it has to be gotten from his own stock. I totally forgot until Matt Mentioned the thing about the beetles. Thanks!

Hahaha, oh no, Jen, you can buy firewood any time of day. James will have to show you the procedure for buying firewood, though it won't be anywhere near as oddly comical as when the ranger walked us through it. He has a procedure, a very particular one, and he's more proud of it than Al Gore is of the internet...

Not if it was meant as if "There may be only half of one"  as opposed to maybe he is one. :)
But then, I am but an egg when it comes to grammar, my mind depreciating more and more each year.

Okay so Charles does like baiting folks into things... nice to know.  ;)

Back to topic, no firewood is needed, but we can bring Duraflame or other processed, quick-start logs for firebuilding.  Do we know how much the ranger is charging us for the firewood and maybe some folks can chip in for that to contribute for SP?

I also saw a thread about crock pots and cooking... are the fire pits or designated fire spots not allowed to have cooking at them?
