The New KR Retraining System was created by Gallion (Gallion)
In our continued push to improve the KR experience for its players, we have added to the rules, a new system which allows each character to unlearn a certain amount of skills once ever in its existence.

This new system will be the ONLY OOG way that you can ever have a skill removed from your card. If you learned 1 HE, and three months later you decided you wanted to learn 1 HB instead, well this system is the only way to partially fix that. If you are a priest and decide to leave the faith, this system is what you use if you want some build back. If you simply made some wrong choices during your characters career, this is for you. In all cases though, any character can only use this system once ever, so use it wisely.

Here is a link to take you to the new rules:

Too many WoW (and more recently 4E D&D) flashbacks are coming to mind.  ;)

If a new [strike]patch[/strike] errata comes out on the game mechanics/rules... will you allow for a possible retraining again for a character that has already performed a retrain?

That would entirely depend on the new rules if/when they are posted.

Sweet.

I'd make a COH/COV Respec joke, but no one here would get it.

No one else here plays City of Heroes/Villians?

Retraining System = Win

Oh, just thought of something that's silly but I can imagine it a question cropping up:

If you ask to unlearn a list and its approved, and then later on you decide 'Hm, I really should have kept that list after all' can you relearn it?

I'd give you till the time I updated your card to ask for it back, after that its lost till you learn it again via in game means.

Does this also apply to dropping and learning new racials?

You can unlearn a promo skill.

In response to racials, under the original write up you weren't able to remove racials, but somehow that line is missing from the posted write up. I'm double checking to make sure if it is intended or not and i'll get back to you.

The line was removed because it was unnecessary.  ;)

What the rules say you can do, you can do. What they do not say you can do, you cannot do.  The retraining rules do not say that you can remove racial skills or your race.

A minor update was just added - a line had been dropped about not being able to unlearn a class that can only start as (such as Wild Mage).  This has been added back in.

Let's say, for example, a character has only one profession list that appears on his race's starting professions, and three that didn't.  Could he unlearn the profession from his starting list?

That is something that did not come up but I would venture to say no. One of the spirits of this system is that a character must be concidered valid after the retraining happens. By removing your only list which is concidered a starting list your character is no longer 100% legal via the current rules surrounding character creation and progression.

No, because the rule stipulates that your character card must be legal when you're finished. Having three professions that you could not have started with and none that you could have started with would make for an illegal card.

I thought that would be the ruling, and it probably won't come up for me, but thank you.  :)
