Character Card Packages for 10th Anniversary Event!

As Roy mentioned in the main 10th Anniversary Event thread everyone playing a PC at this event will create a new level 5 character. In order to make the character creation process simpler we have made character packages which will be listed in this thread.

To create your character you will first choose the race & profession you want. All races start with any free racial starting skills that they have on their list. Each profession has 10 build spent on generic skills that anyone playing a character of that profession could use. In addition to that each profession has a few option 'packages' of 40 builds worth of skills. Some professions will have more package options then others.

So to create your character all you will need to do is select your race, profession and package option. Details on how to submit your character will be coming soon.

In the next few posts I will list all the professions & package options, if anyone has any questions concerning these profession packages, please post them in this thread.

I'm not sure this is a question that you can answer Rob but someone else probably can. Why aren't their racial "packs" just like these profession packs. Unless I'm misunderstood something we are only getting the racials of the race we pick. 90% of the racials that really give the races depth aren't free. Answer these questions... What Nyad is 5th level and doesn't have liquify? What orc is 5th level and doesn't have his racial strength? The Answer: None of them.

I feel your pain, Matt, but the problem is that the racial lists are so diverse that coming up with a fixed build amount to spend on all of them was impractical. Without a fixed number for the racial list, the packages wouldn't be an even buy for everyone. So, a corner had to be cut somewhere in order to make the process of creating all these new characters manageable and balanced.

No dark elves, but otherwise they're available. They remain restricted, meaning that you'll need approval of your concept from Aaron.

There only 1 Archer package.

As I said in the first post:

Archer is not the only profession with only one package option.(Alchemist, Healer, Priest, Physician, Racketeer, Scholar, Spy)

These professions are all somewhat specialized and I did not see the need for multiple packages.

Can we dump skills and use that build for more career points? Case-in-point the psion packages... psion defense ranks are a waste of build, IMO. Package B would be perfect if you could just dump the defense ranks and use that build for more Psi points.

You must understand, everyone, that the reason for this system was to allow the maximum flexibility with the minimal down time for Logistics.

Had we allowed for "Roll your own" fully generated characters, we would need a computer at the event, a printer, and a ton of time to process through everyone hemming and hawing and making last minute changes. Or we'd have hand-filled out cards which any player could edit on the fly and keep having any skills they conveniently wanted.

This system allows us to have a standardized "Menu of Option" that players can pick through to get something close to their ideal build. It also allows the cards to be properly printed so that we don't have to worry about custom-editted or illegible cards.

Does this allowed you to totally do *Exactly* what you want to do? Of course not. Maybe you can't be a Polearm wielding Ronin or a Mage with only one spell and tons of Magic points, but it does allow you to get close. Does it mean that there is only one option for Scholar or Archer? Yes, but let's be honest, they are specialist characters. At level 5, for a single event, there is only so much variation to expect for a class that will likely be played by one or two people.

We have put a tremendous amount of work into making sure all of you would be able to play any class in this event, and to maximize to the best of our ability your enjoyment of the anniversary weekend, and while we appreciate constructive feedback to this system, we also implore you to work within the logistics structure we've established for the event.

The problem is the work required to manually enter individual character cards.

Using the package system, we were able to modify the standard character card database so that inputing someone's character request requires filling out three fields (player name, character name, religion) and selecting race, profession and package from three drop-down menus. Voila, card complete.

It wasn't a question of 'possible'. It was a question of 'reasonable'.

For the time being I'm going to say requesting minor changes, like requesting a different weapon for your Ronin, or dropping a skill in favor of more Casting Points or Body Points is okay. But this would only apply to cards submitted over the next 2 weeks, so if you want to submit a character with a slightly altered package, go for it, just make a note of how you would like your package altered in your email when you send your character to .

Any characters submitted after Monday, April 21st will not be modified from a base package. If you have already submitted your character for the anniversery event, and you want to have your character modified somehow, send an email to with your request.

There won't be a cap on professions, however if a restricted race gets too many people requesting to be them, I may close registration for that race.  All the more incentive to get your submissions in early!
