Over the next day or so I am going to be going through and performing a audit regarding Lores in the character card database. Some of them will be condensed/consolidated for lores that appear multiple times/under different spellings/or are restricted. Please bear with us while this happens.
For restricted lores: they will be listed on your sheet and will be unable to be taught to other players. Restricted lores are special lores that are gained through usually: specific plot instances or with director approval and are not able to be learned conventionally or taught.
If you notice a discrepancy with your card/lores and a lore goes missing or something similar please email me at and I will get it resolved as soon as possible. Thank you all for your patience as we resolve this matter.

When I looked, I noticed a lack of Lore: Namierran, and two instances of Lore: Sea.
Thank you for this, Gus, this is clearly VERY much needed, xD

A lot of the lores may appear different or disappear entirely over the next few days. For everyones edification:
LL means this should be a regular lore and not a Monster Lore
RR means this is going to be a restricted lore.
ML means this should be a monster lore.
If you spent service or gold on any lores that are removed/condensed/changed please let me know and I will see you are properly reimbursed! We are all super appreciative of everyone being patient and bearing with us as we streamline the current lores/lore system.

Are there some kind of backups of the cards if we don't remember what's been removed? I just went to look at one of my cards and can't remember what the "Filler ##" was >.<.

Filler ## is for a Lore that has been removed from the card system and is no longer applicable. We do have the capabilities to go back and look through the system to let you know what was removed.

I see a distinction was made between Lore Lores and Monster Lores. Will a distinction be made between Religion Lores and Lore Lores? Because someone (probably a Jaxuarian) worshiping Solla'Set, for example, shouldn't have to be a Scholar to get Lore: Solla'Set.

Also, if you learned a Monster Lore at an event, how can it be deleted? Unless I suppose the monster type is deleted, but I dont think it was? That was the lore that was indicated by Filler ##, so I am a bit confused here.

Josh: If you have a lore that is marked with RR, then you are going to have that added onto your card when I am done with the Lore Audit.
Nick: Any non-applicable lores or lores that would be unavailable to you, etc, will be refunded.
Lux: Lore: Religion is seperate from: Lore: Solla'Set or Lore: Glomm. Commoners have access to Lore: Religion. Recently at some point, specific Gods were being put on under the cards of characters who had access to that god. For Example: Lore: Brazen being added to a card of a character who was a Brazenite and was not a scholar, Instead of Lore: Religion, which functions as the lore of your particular god (if baptized) and general knowledge of other gods.
Dave: Some of the Monster Lores aren't actually monster lores but this was due to miscommunication etc, and they should be regular lores. An example on a few of them that I have received multiple messages about: Fey, Dragon, Mortal Hunter, are Lores that should actually not be monster lores but are listed as such.
There are also numerous lore/monster lores that are incredibly specific, some of these are either Restricted, OR they are very specific. The purpose of this consolidation is to bring lores in line with those that fall under the same general idea and to not overwhelm individuals using the character build as well as having a general (yet still growing) list of lores that keeps in with the spirit of their purpose. There are some that are just too specific and fall under other categories. As an Example: Lore: Linguistics, Dead Languages, Word Deriviation, Regional Dialects, all can fall under Lore: Linguistics. Lores are meant to be in essence an area of study in a medieval fantasy setting rather than functioning as specifically as college level courses of studies.
Again if everyone can be patient as we work through this it is greatly appreciated, the lores are going to still look funny for a day, but if we all are a bit patient and wait for the dust to clear we can save everyone time and lots of questions.
Gus

AH, okay. So you're saying, as a formerly not-Scholar, I shouldn't have been allowed to have Lore: Valos or Lore: Galmachis, but I could have had the most general, Lore: Religion.
That makes sense, I suppose.
I'd always thought that the Commoner skill "Lore: Religion" actually functioned more like "Lore: Monster (Any)" in that it allowed you to pick up the Religion Lores. Thanks for clearing that up.

While the consolidation is mostly completed for now, there are a few errors we need to manually fix from the code we were using.
Lores have been consolidated to remove redundant lores or lores that were combinations of existing lores that were trying to be further specific when this was both unneeded and prohibited by the rules as lores can only become so specific.
The benefits of this are that we can have a codified list of Lores to provide Storytellers and Marshals with that they can pull from to allow individuals to ask about their plots and have answers/responses prepared head of time
The secondary benefit is with the introduction of the character builder and to everyone in general is a list of available lores that are applicable and worthwhile so an individual can spend their build and get the proper worth out of their lores.
Lastly: Regarding the specificity of lores as an example: We had Lore: Ancient Druidics, Ancient Divinity, Ancient Magic, Ancient Bardics, Ancient History, Ancient Kormyrian History, Ancient Dwarven History. With this consolidation you now simply need a combination of Lore: Ancient History, and Druidics/Divinity/Magic/Bardics/Kormyre/or Dwarf for those relevant lores.
I will be available during week in the life anytime you need me if you'd like me to go over your card with you if you want to handle it right away. Or we can wait until after the event, I'm happy to help either way. My email address for fixes/bugs/issues is:
Thanks again everyone for your patience in this!

Thank you Gus for all of your hard work in this.
As with all changes the intent of this change is to improve the game for everyone. Also as with all changes there are some things that we cannot foresee that will make some people unhappy in the short or even long term.
The review of Lores started because before the recent introduction of the Character Builder, we had never had an easy and visible "Complete List" of lores. With the compilation of such a list, we realized that there were a lot of lores that didn't make sense to have in the game, including duplicated lores, overlapping lores, and lores that were no longer relevant.
All of that being said, thank you to everyone for working with us to get this right in the coming weeks. If you have lost a Lore, or a couple of Lores, that you feel very strongly were converted incorrectly, please email me at . Please include the lores that you would like to have us consider keeping, a short explanation of what the lore covers knowledge wise and a short background of how you came to have the lore in the first place. After the event I will work with Gus and James to review the requests and see what we can do. If we erred in consolidating we will fix it. If we feel strongly that we did not err we will talk to you about it.
This is a bold change to be sure, much like tearing off a band-aid it hurts a bit. But in the end we will do right by everyone while also keeping the balance of the game and the utility of the lore skills in mind.

I suppose it is worth stating this as well.
Your character didn't lose any knowledge.
We are just reorganizing how that knowledge is represented on your card and yes, it will cost you less build.
