Trying to find small smith's hammer phys rep was created by Faila (Faila)
So, Faila needs a hammer phys rep for smithing. The difficulty is that all of the hammers I can find are large weapons and not appropriate for a female smith doing fine metalwork (even the smallest weapons are still pretty big). If you have seen something you think might be appropriate, can you let me know where? Or, if you think you might be able to make something, could you send me a PM.

Thanks, Crystal

Is the hammer ONLY going to be used to RP smithing? No combat whatsoever? If so... goto Toy's R Us. Thor hammers. :) Or buy toy tools that they sell at stores.

If you have some spare pvc, any kind of soft foam, and paint, it's easy to make a cheap hammer that's safe to use on the player's physreps.

The Thor's hammer is a good size and feel for a blacksmith's tool, but if you want to make the tool your own, it's super easy to make yourself

I think Matt D can make some fairly nice smith's hammers on the cheap as well, if you want them boffer-style.

The Thor hammers from Toys R Us now have blue lightning on one side. I think a littl ebit of paint is in order...

If you're not planning on going into combat with it (although it sounds like you are), a generic rubber mallet could work.

Thanks for all your great ideas. I had originally thought phys rep for smithing only, not combat. But then I realized it would qualify as a small weapon and since Faila knows small weapons it would be fun to make it combat safe. Which leads to one more question. With small weapons am I correct that there is never a distinction between edged and blunt?

Wombat safe: you heard it here first.

If memory serves correctly, there are a couple of skills for which you specifically need an edged small weapon physrep (i.e. a dagger):

Assail
Skill (Periodic), Attack (Backstab), Melee

This attack skill inflicts Direct Body damage equal to a character's normal backstab damage quintupled. The strike must be delivered from behind, and to the back of your opponent. You must call out the total damage after the name of the skill, so that you hit your opponent and then call Assail x Body, where x is the damage total. This skill must be performed with a One Handed Edged or smaller edged weapon.

Achilles Strike
Skill (Periodic), Attack, Melee, Weapon (Edged), Area Specific (Ankles)

This attack skill severs both of an opponent’s Achilles tendons. The attack will cause excruciating pain and render both of the opponent’s legs injured as though severed. To strike with this skill, you must be wielding an edged weapon of any size, and must slash your blade across the back of your opponent’s ankles.

Also (perhaps more relevant to you as a Smith):

Leather Restraints

Leather Restraints are simple strips of leather that can be used to tie the hands or feet... Another character with an edged weapon can cut leather restraints instantly.

However, on the plus side, many flavours of undead take double damage from blunt weapons of all sizes. So it sort of balances out? Or something?

Hope that helps!
