First Event in April

First Event in April was created by Caldor Eirson (Caldor)
Looks like after 3 months of false hopes and dreams, my wife and I will actually be able to make the April Event!

As of now we are coming in as a Human Barbarian Druid and a Dryad Ranger (or Archer). We've been getting our gear and costumes and reviewing the new player rules and guidelines and what not. My wife sent the e-mail for us, and we've been making our characters. We also hope to volunteer for Kitchen duty.

Any advice for things we may forget or things we should be prepared for our first weekend would be appreciated!

Extra socks, water bottle (preferably with an in-game looking carrying device), layers, snack or food for non-feast eating (unless you just buy whatever else people sell at various times). And especially, sense of adventure. Can't leave that at home!

Trail mix is always a good stand by for snacking. Don't forget bedding such as a blanket or sleeping bag for when you might actually be able to catch a nap.

Just to note, Kitchen Duty is not really an open option in leiu of NPCing except for those few players that are assigned to it normally and are involved that month in making the Feast - its definitely something worth asking our Kitchen Marshal on duty about once you arrive though!

Definitely make sure to bring wicking layers - it might be getting warmer, but nights will still be quite cold - and plenty of socks (the Camp is often muddy).

If you have an specific questions please feel free to post them up, and someone will be happy to help you both out - See you soon!

There are always things that can be done to help out in the kitchen any time, but especially saturday from 2-9pm with feast prep/serving/cleanup. If you have any specifics about the kitchen you are curious about feel free to shoot me a PM.
But feel free to see me or any other of the kitchen marshals during the weekend and we can figure out where you could be the biggest help!

See you at the event!

Thanks for all the replies. We'll definitely pack heavy on the socks. I have to figure out what layers I can do with the costume I have...

Spring weather at the camp is weird. It can be very warm to hot during the daytime (especially running around in costume) to very cool/cold at night (some folks put on thermals & wear cloaks). Best advice was posted by some of our great players & staff all ready... socks, change of clothes in case of mud (& there will be mud. No escaping it), bedding (sleeping bag is ok, but the more IG you make your sleeping area look, the better), & food. There's some supermarkets & stores a minutes away from the campsite, so procuring snacks & such shouldn't be difficult if you forget or make last minute decisions to get sustenance.

Socks. Good thick hiking socks if you have 'em...I honestly prefer quality over quantity in my footwear.
And good boots, if you can...do remember that you will likely be running around a campsite and through the woods.
For spring, layers usually tend to be the way to go--either IG layers like cloaks, or thermals and warm clothing under your costume. And multiple layers...mud is a given, and rain happens--there's nothing worse than having to run around in soaked underlayers!
Snack food that you can eat on the go and shove in a pouch or pocket is a personal favorite of mine (I hate being hungry!)
And for the cheesy bit...a willingness to have fun running around and playing a character for a weekend :)

Thanks again! We've LARPed before, so we definitely have the willingness to run around all weekend in character!

We'll stock up on socks and snacks and what not. Unfortunately our bedding and supplies won't be as IC as we would like this weekend, as some of the stuff couldn't necessarily get in time, but we have costume and gear and will be upgrading our equipment as we go.

A question on props - If my character is a crafter: Healing Potions, most likely. What works well for props for these that isn't too expensive?

I just realized my signature wasn't on the earlier ones for some reason:

It seems like everyone else has hit on the out of game needs to be prepared, so if there is anything concerns you have about in game preparedness like character history or the like I would be happy to help. Just pm me. Also, welcome to the Knight Realms community!

Leggings - just in general. under armour or otherwise.
Maybe it's just me, but i find them to be an excellent form of temperature control in the spring where hot and cold are a thing of flux.
They are easy to get on and off, can be layered to fit under all kinds of pants and blend easily with costuming.
Also, they're common and cheap enough that you can grab a few pairs if they get wet or dirty.

Thanks again.

Any suggestion for good cheep leggings?

Also, how early is it ok to arrive at the camp site? We'd like to try and arrive as early as we can, since we are new. Plus, someone is picking our son up straight from school, so we can actually leave early this time.

Usually the bulk of people are there by 6 or 7pm Friday. If you don't have a bunk yet I would suggest a bit sooner to fine space/meet folks/wander/eat. But I don't often arrive until 7/8 and am usually fine.

Target for leggings.

I use these because they're small, and therefore easy to carry around. I have roughly 50 of them on me at all times at events. Plus, they're super cheap. Fill them with some colored sand from a craft store and you're set.

Ok. Based on some advice and rethinking about build, I'm probably not going to need the vials this session. I'm going to probably hold off on crafting and start with more spell power.

Just spent some time making spell packets (about 150 or so). Will have some to donate with plenty left over for ourselves.
