Purpose of Tomes? was created by Mantel (sigma-j)
What is the use of a tome, once it is created?

I understand that they can be used for teaching, but could, for instance, a Tome of Lores be used to invoke Lores that you don't have on your card for use in Research/Identify Item checks?

If you can call Lore skills in this way, could you also use a Tome of Lores to invoke Monster Lores that you don't have on your card, provided you wielded the tome and opened it to the correct page for the desired Lore, like a Pioneer Academic would for Archivist Tome?

Are there any applications I'm missing, or am I overestimating their utility?

Hey Jusden, my name is Matt and I am a Rules Marshal and play a scholar.

Tomes can be used for one of three things.

1. A scholar uses tomes when using the skill Research.
2. A scholar can use a tome containing casted abilities (such as a sphere of magic) to create scrolls.
3. A person can learn a skill from a tome so long as they have a profession that would allow it.

A tome does not allow a person to call lores which aren't on their card when using identify item or trying to get more information on a mod.

I hope this clarifies your questions!

Thank you Matt!

So by this, you mean that the lores or information contained in the tome can be used for straight Research, but it's not like calling a Lore off of your card to amplify your results? For example researching Kormyrian architecture, you can call Research, Culture Lore: Kormyre from your card, but you couldn't call Research and invoke Culture Lore: Kormyre from a Tome of Lores if you don't have Culture Lore: Kormyre on your card?

Edit: I understand now.
