New Players - From Atlantis

Hi Folks-

My wife and I are newbies and are trying to plan a weekend to join the fun. At the moment, we are on our little island of Bermuda, in the middle of the Atlantic, reading the rulebook and dreaming up our PCs.

We want to make the most of our trip - So I wanted to ask about the weekends in August- December, would any of them be any better for newbies? And also see about connecting with a New Player Marshal.

Many thanks-

Henry

(We are interested in knightrealms bc it looks amazing and my parents live in south jersey, so its relatively close)

Hey! Name's Conor and I'm a New Player Marshal.

Need any help send me a message, or post here.

As for the weekends, for the most part, unless a ST wants to step in, no one knows what is a better month for story wise.

If you like warmer months I'd suggest trying for August or September. Colder months, November or December.

Costuming wise, since you don't have to worry about layers, I find summer easier to start in budget wise. However, some players will disagree with me and say that winter is better to start in.

It's all a matter of personal preference. Can't wait to see you at Knight Realms!!!

Hi, Henry! I'm Jeff, also a New Player Marshal.

I'd say September would be the best month, since it wouldn't be too hot or cold and the Camp would be beautiful with the leaves changing color.

Hi Henry! I'm Onca, another New Player Marshal.

First of all, I'll add to the warm welcomes. If you need anything, there are several of us.
Next, it seems that when you are back in the states, I'll be in your area! I'm going to Bermuda for a week in October :)

As for which weekend is good for newbies, it can be hard, since we (as other players) don't know the plot in detail in advance. So I would suggest scheduling for whichever is easiest for you. October is usually an undead-heavy month, as Halloween, but that's not a hard and fast rule.

Looking forward to seeing you both!

In general, there is always something for newer players to do - the Storytellers & Staff make it a point to be as inclusive as they can for all ranges. I don't think you'll need to worry about a specific weekend being "new player friendly" per se.

Hi - thanks so much for all the replies.

Looks like we will chart a course for September.

I'm working on a (basic) Sylvan elf Ranger and my wife is enamored with becoming a Witch Hunter from Coast Haven.

One more general question, ive been reading some of the history and prologues. Can you advise the best source for making ourselves conversant with current events?

Onca - will you be in Bermuda for vacation or work.

Namaste-

Henry & Bianca

One of the STs generally go over that during the end of New Player Training. However, feel free to message Matt M. With those questions, as he is a ST and NPM

for my PC I'm looking at the Bastard Sword option - regarding Background - what are some good documents to read for KnightRealms?

By way of my own gaming BG i currently GM a Star Wars FFG game and I've got dice older than some of the PCs I have in my game :( So im familiar with D&D, Tolkien and the like. I'm looking at being an elf, even though I've got a beard. So I though I could be descended from an elf person like Mahtan the Smith from Tolkien Lore.

There is a treasure trove of background information in the Baronial Library, which is available here and would be available to your character upon their arrival into town (assuming they're literate):
www.knightrealms.com/in-game/the-baronial-library.html

Right now, our staff is in the process of adding even more lore, so definitely stay tuned!

Regarding Sylvan stuff, you can contact myself. While I am not a Marshal, a good number of new players that have come in as Sylvans have ended up drawing from similar lore that (since my main is one of them) I can help figure things.

In addition, if you need any suggestions regarding Ranger builds, you can send me a PM as well on that.

Hope to see you both in September!
