Honest, Geoff and James, this is not political

DEAR AMERICAN:

I NEED TO ASK YOU TO SUPPORT AN URGENT SECRET BUSINESS RELATIONSHIP WITH A
TRANSFER OF FUNDS OF GREAT MAGNITUDE.

I AM MINISTRY OF THE TREASURY OF THE REPUBLIC OF AMERICA. MY COUNTRY HAS HAD
CRISIS THAT HAS CAUSED THE NEED FOR LARGE TRANSFER OF FUNDS OF 700 BILLION DOLLARS US. IF YOU WOULD ASSIST ME IN THIS TRANSFER, IT WOULD BE MOST PROFITABLE TO YOU.

I AM WORKING WITH MR. PHIL GRAM, LOBBYIST FOR UBS, WHO WILL BE MY
REPLACEMENT AS MINISTRY OF THE TREASURY IN JANUARY. AS A SENATOR, YOU MAY
KNOW HIM AS THE LEADER OF THE AMERICAN BANKING DEREGULATION MOVEMENT IN THE 1990S. THIS TRANSACTION IS 100% SAFE.

THIS IS A MATTER OF GREAT URGENCY. WE NEED A BLANK CHECK. WE NEED THE FUNDS
AS QUICKLY AS POSSIBLE. WE CANNOT DIRECTLY TRANSFER THESE FUNDS IN THE NAMES
OF OUR CLOSE FRIENDS BECAUSE WE ARE CONSTANTLY UNDER SURVEILLANCE. MY FAMILY LAWYER ADVISED ME THAT I SHOULD LOOK FOR A RELIABLE AND TRUSTWORTHY PERSON WHO WILL ACT AS A NEXT OF KIN SO THE FUNDS CAN BE TRANSFERRED.

PLEASE REPLY WITH ALL OF YOUR BANK ACCOUNT, IRA AND COLLEGE FUND ACCOUNT NUMBERS AND THOSE OF YOUR CHILDREN AND GRANDCHILDREN TO WALLSTREETBAILOUT@
THIS TRANSACTION. AFTER I RECEIVE THAT INFORMATION, I WILL RESPOND WITH
DETAILED INFORMATION ABOUT SAFEGUARDS THAT WILL BE USED TO PROTECT THE FUNDS.

YOURS FAITHFULLY,
MINISTER OF TREASURY PAULSON

I'm 56 and my wife is 55, so its up to most of you [strike]suckers[/strike] taxpayers to foot the bill cause I WILL BE LONG DEAD  when it comes time to collect.  BTW, this sort of fecal matter splatters you every two decades or so, because the average person has an IQ of 100, which means that half are worse off than that.

We're not allowed to talk politics here, Paul :)

Politicians, however, will eat at the trough (hell, they'll eat the trough itself) so long as you let them.  Ever try to unseat an incumbant?

Talk to a state regulator?  I have, and its easier for a woman to piss up a rope than to get results.  Adams was right - we need a revolution every generation or so.  I at least saw the writing on the wall and got Jake's tuition into short term notes.  Its my older friends who have taken huge hits.  My father, 84, does not as he puts it "buy green bananas" OK, but this is a real ankle grabber, folks.  I've been through recessions, two bad ones, and this one is a real ankle grabber.

This may not yet be a recession, but it is a huge crises.  I could think of lots of things to use 700 billion for, but hey, what do I know?

I had no mention of politics.  The idea of me, or my children (if I ever have any) being saddle with a debt that wasn't of their creation honestly makes me mad.

I work in the financial industry and what I see is incredible.  I have seen both legal and illegal actions that cost people millions of dollars because of someone else's idea of what makes a good deal or business.  I see folks who are in the industry and I ask them as politely as I am allowed to... "what they are doing to secure a better financial tomorrow for their kids".  It's not totally the fault of the government, the speculators, or the people in business now.  It's everything and everyone.  Each played a part in this situation that is unfolding bit-by-bit right now.

Sorry Charles... but I honestly want to know what folks 20 years ago, during the lovely 80's and 90's were doing with the eceonomy and money.  "Reaganomics" and the like and what mess they left for us now.

Twenty years ago in the late 80s I was in my mid 30s and running a business.  Taxes had been cut for those near the top and ideology had replaced judicial demeanor for court appointees.  Political parties back then had a way of convincing people to vote against their best political interests by putting up smoke screens (same sex marriage is today's buzz word which covers up a multitude of sins).

It all comes back to a non-thinking, rather ill-informed electyorate.  Mostly people my age were making a living, while people my current age were running th ings.

People my age now, had no desire to live their life under a microscope in order to serve as elected officials.  Take that back, one of my classmates fro U of D, whose nickname was "Lame Jane" in her classes, successfully ran for high state office.  You see what I mean.

I had a friend who was second in his class at the Naval Academy - fine officer - got out cause his CO on a sub was an idiot and he did not want to spend three years doing nothing.  Ditto for guys who were LT Colonels and on the fast tract in the army - desired that his kids go to the3 same HS for 4 years.

Horribly enough, my generation managed to pay out of the debt and had things balanced before the current bunch of idiots took over.  Seems that oral sex in high office means more than going to war and losing trillions off the books.  This one may be political, but what did folks not like about the 90s, the peace or the prosperity?

My coterie, while working hard and making decent to very good money, did not squander it on new cars or overly expensive clothes (I admit to having purchased a thousand dollar suit back then, but it was the only suit I had besides the white one in which I was married).  We usually bought used cars and ran them into the ground, something I continue to do to this day.

Nose sugar, as ALex so obliquely puts it, was and still is a fast way to ruin.  The ganja generation largely ignored it.  There were parties, however...

What occurred, as it always does, was speculators using leverage, made bad speculations that their buddies in the banking industry covered.  This sad tune goes back to the late twenties of the past century.  It seems that everyone who lives 50 years is treated to at least one such debacle.  Those of you who have/had long term savings and put it into cash (of which I include CDs, Treasuries, etc) last year should have your peers bowing at your feet.

Whats hilarious is that over the years James almost definitely has had to delegate and resolve more conflicts and issues of state than a certain Illinois Senator.

If you think about it Alaska is like a fictional Travance, separated from the rest of the world by the great Canadian rift. There are giant monsters that frequently  attack the populace. You can fit the population into one large cabin. Everyone dresses funny. Beards are very popular and finally , nobody understands why anyone would choose to live their of their own free will.
