Ravenswood Leather Help! was created by Chris G. (Cross)
Hey,

I was looking into purchasing a Jerkin from Ravenswood Leather and I was curious if anybody has dealings with them in the past.  How are they on shipping?  How are their sizing?  Customer service?  Any and all help would be appreciated!

Thanks!
Chris

I boughht the Tralius jerkin last year.  Workmanship was great.  fit is perfect, Quality through and through. shipping was not too bad. I should have it at the March event if you want to see it
Don't let the differnce of 5 or 10 dollars prevent you from making the order

For the measurements for Chest and Waist, did you do exact measurements or did you size up to anticipate for under clothing or anything else.  Also I am not a shapely guy, I've got a bit of a gut and that's where my big worry is... lol

I actually had a very bad experience with their customer service.  I ordered a pair of bracers from them, and they sent me the wrong ones.  Then when I complained, I was charged shipping back to them, and then overnight shipping back here for the right ones.  So all in all, my $45 bracers ended up costing me $50 in shipping charges.

The bracers themselves are really nice, and have held up for 4 years now, so if you want to chance the customer service, I'd say go for it.

I've bought 2 jerkins, a thigh holster, and a bow quiver from them.  I love thier stuff and have never had an issue with their staff or customer service.  Turnaround time isn't too bad.  Shipping is a bit more than desired...

For jerkin measurements, I added a few inches for layers of clothing underneath.  I am also a fat bast@#d, and really didn't have an issue with my gut.

My advice when you place the order, make sure to request a tracking number sent to your email.

I also have had a bad customer service experience with them. I wanted to order something very specific and even after multiple email correspondence and talking on the phone, they still sent me the wrong thing in the wrong size.

The product itself is very well made, but I would definitely recommend getting something that laces up the side because I have found their sizes run a little weird on me. They ask you for your measurements, but I do not believe their things are custom sized as there was a little "L" tag in my jerkin, which I assume means large, and the jerkin didn't fit me like it should have were it sized to my measurements.

Really, I highly recommend www.pendragoncostumes.com/ . I've talked with the proprietor and she can duplicate any male costuming piece that Ravenswood makes at a comparable price AND it comes lined instead of unlined. I've never had an issue with Pendragon.

Thanks everybody!  Rob, I will most definitely look into Pendragon Costumes then.

Also... Paul, how many was a few?  Did you bump it like just 1-2 inches or 2-4?

As a follow up, I got a call from their owner as a result of this thread - he said he's looking into the problem I had with their customer service to make sure it doesn't happen with anyone else.

I just wanted to update everyone.

I placed an order with Ravenswood Leather and after only six days I was gifted with the Avatar Jerkin I ordered.  Speedy Delivery, Amazing Customer Service and Quick e-mail responses.  The product fits like a dream and holds enough room to layer under with adjustable side lacing to tighten as I see fit.

All in All I want to thank everybody for their input, I can't say that I am anything less than pleased with their work.

Next time on Costume Upgrades! Pendragon and their Capelet!

What size shirt are you, and  what did you order from them? If you can give sizes and any measurement advice, that might help with others who wish to order the same or similar stuff.

Glad it worked out for ya.

I am a XL shirt, I added 3 inches to the chest and waist measurement when I ordered.  I purchased an Avatar Jerkin.  Actually if you have a facebook and you friend them, their Texas merchandiser guy runs the Facebook and he actually chatted on facebook with me for about an hour to help me pick exactly what was right for me.

Since I've worked the same faire as both Ravenswood and Pendragon and since my wife owns a Ravenswood piece and I own a Pendragon I'd say this on the matter.

They both make excellent products, but as said above, Pendragon lines their garments. I personally like their quality better as  I think it's a bit more durable. I find Ravenswood is good for a show piece, something one every now and then where Pendragon will last a bit longer. She also is a huge geek and if you ever get a chance to catch her at a faire, go see if she has some of her comic themed jerkins, fabulous work.

In the end, both quality, but I prefer Pendragon...it also doesn't hurt that it is much cheaper than Ravenswood.
