  • A precious object without the strength to protect it is easily taken. Strength without something to protect is easily wasted.

Weapons Foam Advice was created by Burkhart Jarlson (steel_enigma)
Hey all,

First time making any sort of weapon for game. Looking for advice on what foam would be best to use, also looking on advice for sprayable outer layer. Is plastidip good for that or is that going to make it too hard?

The final result is going to be a set of coreless Metal Bars that can be both used for smithing, and possibly as throwing weapons (hopefully, but that's more of a secondary effect.)

Thanks a lot for your help,
Josh

I use camping pad foam for the foam. I haven't figured out what exterior I wanted to do yet. if you want I can give you some foam next game

Plastidip should work well as an outer coating as it is flexible enough for the foam.

As the intent is to make coreless thrown weapons, I'd suggest a closed cell, medium density EVA foam. You should be able to use plastidip on it without having it all absorb into the foam cells. I would advise the brush on plastidip: the spray on takes many layers and can get bubbly in spots. The brush on usually gets a smooth, sufficiently thick coating to work with in far less coats, that you can them paint to your desired color, and coat with a layer of clear plastidip.
