I'm not looking to do it just yet, but what is the procedure to apply to make non-feast meals in the kitchen? I've been told my recipes would be good for late night meals.

Main: Grigori the grumpy healer, adopted member of the Tribe of Berk, adviser to Chief Darius Redmaw.
Alt: Dorian White, physician and alchemist for hire.
Alt: Ruy Sanchez de Castor y Ortiz, the best swordsman in all of Coast Haven!

Contact me, Brenden or Luis in advance. We can work it out with you. Generally it is also at the discretion of the kitchen Marshal on duty and the feast cook, if they need the stove/ovens.

Is there a usual assumption on how many people to cook for? How long does one normally keep serving food? How much of the gold is kept by the cook?

We don't really have a standard for food sold outside of the main meals. It is something we would have to discuss on a case by case basis.

There was a post & some rules in regarding selling items for IG or OOG money at events. Speak to a Rules Marshal about that, they can be of help.

Hot and fresh from the Rulebook, the rules governing the sale of goods:

Therefore, the following rules will govern the sale of goods – at the Market Faire or in any game
capacity – at Knight Realms:
1. OOG goods of any value can be sold during game-play at Knight Realms, so long as they are
appropriate to the setting of the game; the Director has final approval on what goods are
acceptable for sale.
2. OOG goods that are worth less than $10 each can be sold for OOG or IG money; the transaction
must be entirely for one or the other.
3. OOG goods that are worth more than $10 each can only be sold for OOG money.
4. IG goods can only be sold for IG money.
5. If your character possesses IG items for which your OOG goods could be used as phys-reps, you
can sell them together for the purpose of enhancing role-play. The IG item should be sold for IG
money, while the OOG good must be sold adhering to the rules above.

To answer your more specific questions:

1. There is no usual assumption of how many people to cook for, but obviously cooking more food would increase your gold-earning prospect.

2. If the food is good, you'll sell until you're sold out, which shouldn't take long. Cooking more food may lengthen that time, so perhaps making a small batch to entice people/get 'em hooked, and have a dedicated core of buyers and word of mouth for next time.

3. If you cooked the food and you're the one selling it, keep as much of the earnings as you like.

I keep running into "Oh, that part of the rulebook is out of date," so frankly I figured that section was either the same or the kitchen ran on different rules. Since I was told that food cannot be purchased with OOG money, the latter seemed pretty strong. I wouldn't be complaining about the difficulty of earning gold if I could fork over some actual dollars for food. I've never even bought a fate with gold because I have to save it for food. Ironic, since everyone I know would rather do just that.

I also figured that a portion of the IG payment would go to the bank as a usage fee (and help get gold back into the economy, such as it is).

Caldor, I'll send you a PM.

I don't know who told you food cannot be purchased with IG money. It can be, and often is.

He said OOG money, Jason, and I think it's a bit of a misunderstanding, there are many folks who sell food that don't take "Baronial Notes," but plenty others will take real money as payment, I thought.

To be clear, as that statement was a bit confusing, Baronial Notes and real money are the same thing.

Anything sold by the kitchen officially (breakfast and lunch, occasional leftovers based plates) can be bought with Ig or OOG money. Anything sold by a player is entirely at their discretion, subject to the cost restrictions for charging ig money quoted above.

I know I'm not the only new player who was told that this is not so. I checked with someone else, and he confirmed it. Neither of us remember who it was, because, well, we're new.

I've had to save all my gold, such as it is (I've earned a total of 35 over three sessions) for food, and still had to depend on others to buy food for me, or leave the camp entirely to go get something fresh. I hadn't wanted to depend on storage at the kitchen, and I had been told (also erroneously, it seems) that I couldn't have food at a cabin because of animals. I've never even bought a drink at the bar because I needed to save my gold.

Considering how many things I've been told as a new player and later found out was wrong, or read in the rulebook and found out was out of date, I think the information flow to new players is sorely lacking. It's getting really frustrating.

If you could either post or PM those things that you later found out were wrong and the things that were frustrating, I would appreciate it! I'll try to curtail that frustration in the future if I can!

If anyone ever denies you the right to buy kitchen food (actual stuff prepared by the kitchen) for real money, please come find me, Brenden or Luis.

However, please note that some food, including food sold at the bar, may be something prepared and sold by a private person. If a person is selling their own food, they can decide only to take in game money.
