Hi there Rachel!
Welcome to KR! I'm Abby. I'm not a marshal or anything, but it's always good to have new faces!
I play Thalia, who is a dwarven healer. You can usually find me behind the bar at the Inn. Come by and say hello sometime!

Being of WORSHIPPERS is just under as someone who believes in the tenants....maybe accomplish one or two of them or so.
Being of CLERGY (clerics/priests) you firmly believe in the tenants of your deity are true and just and therefore can call upon divine power. For these two you should be following most of the tenants of the god you worship, and preach the ways of your pantheon and support them.
Hope this helps,

Sorry I'm a little late to the party here; I blame real life and college finals and whatnot. I'm Christine, another new player marshal. While my main character in game is High Elven, I had a brief stint as a dark elf at one of our events, and I'd love to offer my two cents and advice. They're one of my absolute favorite races as well and I love finding other people to discuss things with Feel free to PM me any time-but from the looks of it you've already received tons of great advice!
Can't wait to see you in game!

I was reading about the barony and it came to a point where I began reading about different "lands." Tavance, Winterdark etc. Is there a map of these continents, If there is continents. What are the manes of them? Who mainly lives in them? Can they be individually traveled to as in certain jurisdictions that are set forth on the grounds? If a Dark elf were to "pop up" in one of these "continental" places where would be the most common or least common? Is there a specific subterranean continent, or does it just "exist below" in secret hard to get to places? So many questions! ore to come I promise haha

's a map of lands in the vicinity of Travance.
Other maps can be found here . Check them out! (these maps can also be accessed from the left navigation panel - look for "Maps of the World" under the In-Game section.)

I get the gist of how armor points are assigned. If I show wearing a Faux leather breast plate leggings, cloak along with other accoutrements.. as opposed to real leather but it definitely looks like real leather is there a big difference in points? I'm aiming for getting a nice looking Faux leather costume together and little by little changing it to a full on leather SCA-like set as I go.

It's good to ask lots of questions, don't worry about it!
When you show up for your first event, you'll want to get your armour assessed by one of the marshals, who will tell you how many AP it's worth, and will write you an armour card for it. If you'd like to get a rough idea of how much AP different items will give you, have a look here . If you scroll down a short way, you'll find a table with the AP values of different armour locations.
I think I'm correct in saying that the authenticity of your armour doesn't have any bearing on how much AP it gives you, but does determine the soak that it provides.
To elaborate: armour of all types is sorted into two categories - "professional" and "costume" - depending on the authenticity of its construction. A well-made breastplate made of quality steel plate will likely count as "professional," whereas a tatty plastic imitation will probably count as "costume." Professional armour grants its wearer a soak value (which helps keep you alive!) whereas costume armour does not. The idea is to encourage people to wear lots of really fantastic-looking armour!
Have you been able to figure out the way that soak works, or would you find it helpful to hear an explanation?

Pertaining to weapons. Is there usually weapons for sale at the events for oog? if so what is the range of cost and appearance/style. I was hoping I could wait to buy my weapons there instead of trying to use my tiny brain to calculate how much foam to ducttape/latex to other materials to make a weapon or weapons that might or might not be legal. Anyone have a good site for medium to high priced legal weapons? daggers, main gauche, throwing implements... and a nice sword just for good measure. Preferably realistic looking as possible muted tones or something basic I can decorate on my own...

Larpexchange
is a good place to buy equipment of all types, weapons included.
There are people in the community who are nothing short of amazing when it comes to building boffers, and may also take commissions for the same if you ask them nicely.
Calimacil make some great looking gear, however people seem to have mixed opinions when it comes to their weapons - they use a proprietary rubber foam which isn't as stiff as the stuff found in most larp weaponry, and some people don't like being hit with it (essentially, it's especially important that you pull your blows when using a Calimacil!) The wrench you spotted in my avatar is, incidentally, one of theirs. Oh, and they also sell paints: see here and here .

Having used many weapons (and buying more all the time) I can also make some recommendations if you want custom stuff. Also, if you want to play in the winter despite ah, revealing armor can I suggest a good cloak? This game is great and cold weather larp is exciting. Mostly because ti's not so hot and you can bulk out with more enjoyable weapons.

When I started playing, I wore armor, carried a bow, arrows, swords, daggers, and some other miscellaneous gear. As time went one, the weight and headache of keeping all my stuff was getting out of hand.
Look at the forum. People are constantly misplacing their gloves, weapons, etc...
My advice to you, think really carefully about your gear and how much you are willing to walk around with. If you have ever gone to a convention, you know how tiring it can be wearing a costume, walking all over the place, carrying your swag, and making sure you don't forget anything. At the game, you may have all that gear, are setting it down to go use the bathroom or grabbing a drink when all of a sudden, demons attack. The mad scramble to fight, move, gather your things...
Just be smart and more so, be realistic of yourself. How much do you really wanna wear and carry?
Also... Welcome to the game, I hope you have as much fun as the rest of us (which tends to be a buttload and a half), & please feel free to ask all kinds of questions and advice relating to the game.
