Q: How many people does it take to teach a barbarian how to read?
A: 1 knight, 3 squires, and 1 master of the mages guild.

Trying to Find my Friend was created by Caldor Eirson (Caldor)
Many months ago I befriended and baptized Brutus. Many of you may remember him. When he left with his brothers, I promised I would try and keep in touch. Sadly, I have not been able to work oug where he is or otherwise get messages to him. If anyone has been in contact with them, or knows how to tentative them successfully, please find me at the April feast or send me a private missive. For reasons of their privacy, I ask that nobody post their location here.
Thank you all in advance for your help.

I might have a way to check up on the brothers.
They were my friends as well.
We can speak at the April feast.

Subjects of Travance and friends. I would advise you not to let the Father know of where his creations have gotten to. They are finally out from under his thumb.
But by all means help my brother on his holy mission.

To "the Father",
I am as likely to let you know where Brutus and his brothers are as I am to cheat on my wife after turning down her cooking and writing a treatise on how to do magic.
Midori,
I appreciate the offer, but as Brutus is in danger, I am trying to find someone who already has a means of contacting them or who knows where they are. I fear that actively searching might put them, and you, in danger. If I learn of anything where you can be of help in this, I will gladly seek you out.
Annora and Chenjing - Thanks. I will follow up in April.

"Father,"
Listen to me, you little piece of pompous, nihilistic shit.
The only way you are going to find them is over my. dead. body.
They left you. They are free. And they are going to stay that way.
Travance,
I suggest you listen to Lt. Grimkjell's advice, for he speaks truth.
If you have information, I suggest you approach Caldor or myself--I am sure we can make it well worth your time if that is your motivation.
Anyone who gives this information to the Father will be answering to me.

I hqve information that will help you I will send a missive and we can discuss what kind of deal we can work out.
To the father,
Unlike the rest of Travance, I would be happy to help you too, in fact I and my crew are always excited to help a man offering to pay us and pay us well. Meet me at the sight of your former laboratory, be sure to come alone, and unarmed and bring lots of money, I'm sure you can provide me with satisfaction.

Isn't Captain Jackdaw just trying to set him up to kill him and take all his money? I mean, he shouldn't kill anyone, and what he plans is a crime too, but it seems obvious he wasn't trying to betray us.

Caldor,
"Help[ing] a man offering to pay us, and pay us well," does not indicate anything short of being willing to do whatever the money demands. It does not appear that he intended to support us - only his own coffers.
I believe this is clear. Because of my posting this, however, I feel to maintain my honor in this, I must offer my protection if the Culling Post is chosen as the method of punishment.
May Galmachis be gentle and Galladel just - but this is in the hands of Valos now.

To anyone who is seeking Jackdaw for the purposes of upholding law and order, he will be calmly reporting to Kormyrian Naval authorities for questioning.
Caldor, I am most thankful for your wisdom and keen perception directly into the heart of the matter. Jackdaw intended no betrayal of Travance or allies of such that we hold dear - he is long used to dealing with the sort of darker-hearted types in Coast Haven, where such an offer is given and received for what it is, namely, one entirely insincere on both ends. (I doubt the other party had any intention of paying for information in any coin save violence and blood, given what I have heard of him.)
Intention does not, however, matter alone against the letter of the law, certainly. I am sure Jackdaw will be making public contrition known very shortly.
Regards,
Starling, Quartermistress on the Winged.Victory

... So..it seems I have once again mistaken how Travance conducts its business, and lead to something of a misunderstanding. Caldor was correct, I was inviting the man into an ambush. If one were to examine my words they would note I offered to help, never specifying that said help would involve finding any persons of interest. The intended help was to be into the waiting arms of his enemies and to remove him of his gold (which would no doubt be used for ill intent in his hands.)
I would be curious to know what method you lot use to entrap horrible bastards what need a solid killin but have to date managed to elude you, but that is a discussion for another time.
In short I sincerely apologize and greatly regret any misunderstanding that has occurred. And I would certainly not like to mistakenly take an action to make things worse, thus I shall willingly submit to this warrant.

Jackdaw,
If that was your plan, know that the Alchemist only appears behind the mask of his golems. He would not appear in person to your challenge.
Midori,
If you would like a complete accounting of everything this individual has done I would be glad to explain to you in detail. There are a good many reasons why I despise him and everything he stands for, not the least his nihilistic disregard for life and misuse of power. He creates his 'children' and sends them out against Travance--to die--to further his own experiments. He is a despicable individual.

Now I've had very minimal interactions with the father and his creations so I can't really share much of an opinion on the matter of his work and these homunculi. However what does attract my attention is the philosophical implications of his work, and how they affect the idea of life. This is merely me speaking (or writing) on an intellectual level, and not showing any specific favor of his work.
Merihk, I was actually present one morning when the "soul" was being examined and even managed to aid slightly in testing it. From what was discovered it seemed like it was made artificially from numerous different ingrediants and objects from numerous different sources. I cannot say how it all came together, or how it was collected, but I can say it was very philosophically interesting.

Merikh,
If you would like, when you are next in my proper, I can share with you the details of how the homunculi work.
They do in fact have a soul. It is an artificially created soul, created through alchemy. But a soul nonetheless. It does not matter where a soul comes from, but rather what a being does with it. And the homunculi that are capable of sentient thought have shown themselves to be kind and just people.

Given you follow the God of Death, I can understand your interest Merikh. However, the soul is the province of Galledell, rather than Galmachis. But it is a good question, in any case.
From what we understand the Homunculi were created with a soul arising from an artificial act of alchemy. They do have a soul, but it is not one naturally manifesting on Arawyn. This places the homunculi in an awkward position, betwixt the Light of Spirit and Dark of Death, for their creation mocks both.
It does mean however, that the advanced homunculi are innocent and capable of free will. They did not choose their own creation. That is the sole province of this Father person.

Grimkjell,
Merely just trying to return the conversation to what it was originally about. If you consider my guiding words conflict then I can't help you. Perhaps if you consider the intent behind my words rather than just how I structure my sentences then perhaps you would find the value in what I have to say.

Ava, there is value in speaking plainly and without insult. If your intent was to guide, I see nothing in your words but the creation of division and dare I say, chaos.
We spoke of your path becoming harmful to your well being, that you should not walk the path of Chaos because your way through it has warped your sanity and made you cynical and joyless in life. I would that were not to continue. There is more to Travance than pain and struggle, I wish you to find that peace.
We spoke of your path becoming harmful to your well being, that you should not walk the path of Chaos because your way through it has warped your sanity and made you cynical and joyless in life. I would that were not to continue. There is more to Travance than pain and struggle, I wish you to find that peace.

So, all things considered it might be a good idea to return to the subject at hand with our missing comrades, something that was the start of this entire thread that spiraled out of control. Considering the current threat in the world, people suddenly disappearing is a bad sign. As cruel as it may sound we will probably have to be logical about this and try not to spare an abundance of resources in a search for these two brothers. Hate me if you like, but our intention should remain mostly focused on the problem at hand.

If you had been reading you might realize that this is a very suspect channel for such discussion. Think about what it would take to get a note placed upon this board, in a expedient and almost instant manner, from a man who should be in hiding far from here. Yet, Father has had his notes placed here in response to the discussion we have exchanged. If you are concerned for the missing homunculi, then silence here, and an aggressive search or inquiries made more privately, would be in their best interest, would'nt you agree?
