The Winterdark Ball's Silent Antiquity Auction

Hail to the Honorable Populace of Travance,

By the grace of Count Sebastian Everest, Earl of the Marches, do we hereby announce the annual Silent Antiquity Auction which shall take place during this year's Winterdark Masquerade Ball.

Come one and all to place your stake on the marvelous items personally retrieved by his Excellency from the depths of the Black Serpent Trading Company's private collection. Four such items will be presented to those in attendance at various times through the evenings festivities. Accompanying each item will be a ledger which will not only detail the item on display, but allow for silent bids to be written down.

For your benefit, the four items up for auction are as follows:

• "Living Witchwood Chest" - Carefully crafted by a select team of druidic ritualists, this box has a degree of awareness. It is aware of those trying to open it, and only responds to the holder of the key.
• "Zephyr Step" - These boots were crafted by a skilled sorcerer who was able to bind the essence of an elemental lord of wind to them. The elemental's essence enhances the wearer to be slightly lighter, making quick escapes that much easier.
• "Surefall Cloak" - This cloak is crafted from the sewn together feathers harvested from an ancient race of humanoid bird-like creatures. When falling a great distance, the cloak will open like wings, slowing the descent of any unfortunate enough to fall to their doom.
• "Royal Tyrelian Signet" - A ring from a long forgotten elven kingdom. Presumably worn by a prince and lost during a great war upon his death.

At random intervals throughout the night, these ledgers will be collected; effectively ending the bidding process. Winners will be determined near the end of the Ball's activities and the items will be able to be retrieved at the Baronial Feast in December as to allow time for the gold to transfer hands.
