Travance:

I want to thank everyone who came to celebrate with me in my battle royale for doing so. It was a better turnout and more fun than I could ever have hoped for. Congratulations to Erik and Fyodor for your victories in the ring. You both fought with honor and came out stronger for it. I would also like to thank the healers that kept my guests alive as well as all those who aided them.

After the fighting and festivities were finished many expressed their interest in seeing such a competition happen again, which is why I am currently considering the opening and establishment of an official arena within Travance to hold similar competitions in the future.

Many have expressed ideas for different types of competitions, including armorless battles, fist only brawls, and others.

I wish to hear from others to see what type of competitions you would wish to see in this arena in the future as I work on establishing its opening.

I already plan for future Royales like the one held just Sunday, as well as bracket tournaments for single fighters and pairs of two. Any ideas are welcome as they will only help to increase the enjoyment in the future.

Master Jarlson,

Perhaps some love for the many Casters of Travance would be in order? Additionally, some more team-oriented events?

There are many ways to accomplish this sort of thing. We should speak at some point; I've been... around... fighting pits for many years. I'm sure there is some insight I could lend to you.

Chet, You are right. There were many who took the words I used to explain my rules and follow them as written to enter the ring invisible. Because of this I will have to write the rules in more detail to prevent people from perverting them.

The first change will without a doubt be that "If you are not visible at the beginning of the match then you are not participating."

Perhaps it would make sense to make more brackets based off how seasoned people are and the demand for more granular brackets?

I second the notion of having specific brackets based on fighting styles. Different brackets for bare knuckle combatants, casters, hardy warriors, battle mages, alchemists, and fights for less experienced towns members are all good ideas. That way nobody has to be excluded and there is a chance for everyone to compete.

And yes, I have to agree that entering a competition of combat prowess only to spend half of the fight hiding is nonsensical. It's unfortunate that a rule forbidding such a thing has to be made for future contests. All of that aside, the competition was quite enjoyable. I owe you my thanks for arranging it and look forward to your future events.

Being that I see myself as more of a caster I would love to see a competition for just that. I also would agree different skill brackets would also be handy.

I unfortunately could not attend the competition but I'm pretty disappointed that the rules that were tacked on the notice board said no alchemy but then a heard a lot of people used alchemy beforehand. I'm honestly pretty disappointed in that, sorry to say. Perhaps the rules should be more strongly enforced or decided on prior to the competition taking place.

Or you could always do a traditional Coast Haven knife fight. Or a classic Kormyrian Three touch. That way it doesn't matter if you have been here for a month or ten years. It's a competition of skill and not "who knows more things"

Bracketed tournaments, caster fights, and contests divided by experience are definitely things I plan on doing, as well as tournaments of Kormyrian Three touch.

I am curious about Coast haven Knife Fights. Could you elaborate on what the rules of those are?

According to what Jackdaw explained to me moons ago, certain maneuvers and jabs in Angst are ordinarily used to represent greetings and phrases. Therefore I'd imagine a fight would resemble a philosophical discussion.

A coast haven knife fight has very few rules.

1. Tie your hands together at the wrist, usually the left hand.
2. 10 strikes wins.
3. Pause to reset after every successful hit.
4. Only Torso shots count.

I do find that interesting, very interesting in fact, and will definitely add that to the list of future Competition formats.

I am also working on ideas for terrain within the arena:
Vines within the arena meant to restrict combatants who draw too close.
Walls set up to act as cover, never knowing who may be around the bend.
A flooded arena with only a few boards to balance on, lest you fall in the water and lose.

And, if I can get enough big rocks... A good old fashion Dodge Rock tournament.

Dame Amalthea, if it's anything like the games I played when I was a kid, you basically take a rock, throw it at someone, and they have to get out of the way. If not, it hurts. Assuming you don't hit in the face, in which it REALLY hurts. Usually when you get hit, you end up unconscious, and the last one standing gets bragging rights. Sometimes even jail time for multiple counts of assault.

I've seen a certain Witch Hunter running around throwing tiny glowing rocks at undead. They usually explode.

I could give him a holler, if you need some rocks?

Dodge rock will happen. This is garenteed.
Amalthea. It is as written. One person throws a rock. Another person dodges the rock. If they don't. It hurts. If they black out they lose. I have seen people in the south play it that if they get hit they are "out", though hopefully no one is going to force us to play it this way. It is no where near as much fun.
