Travance, has your mood been falling like the autumn leaves? Well it's time to put a smile on your face and some warmth back in your bones! Darkwood Academy, in league with Baronial Officials, will be holding a Harvest Festival to raise spirits! (No actual Spirits will be raised, it's just a saying) and to celebrate Galladel's Watch. Come for the food, stay for the music, dancing, and fighting tourney! We hope to see you all there enjoying the food, and each other's company.

Friday Evening

  • Scavenger Hunt Begins! Autumn is a time of hunting, gathering, and preparing for the Winter to come. These fun hunts and gathers will award the participants with items to prepare them in the future. Participants complete tasks and gather items on the checklist to earn points. Our fabulous prizes are awarded for first, second, and third most points, but anyone who earns at least ten points will receive a small bag of treats and provisions.

  • Checklists can be found at the Dragon's Claw Inn bar or at the Blackbird. The lists include more detailed instructions, but please see Squire Ilana Darkwood or Brik Brockles if you have any questions.

First Prize: Choice of Mystic, Arcane, Divine, or Druidic Rune. 20 gold
Second Prize: Choice of Arcane, Divine, or Druidic Rune. 15 Gold
Third Prize: Choice of Arcane, Divine, or Druidic Rune. 10 Gold

If there is a tie for any of the tiers, the tie breaker will be determined by successful hunts considered more difficult than others. What those hunts are however, will be kept secret.

  • Raffle Collection Begins! Wren Revlis is hosting a raffle. 5 boxes of goods worth at least 100 gp each. 10 gold per ticket. If you can’t find him by name, he’ll be wearing a pointed hat with Autumn leaves.

  • Saturday

  • Morning-Before Feast: Carving/Decorating Contest Begins! In Khitan, pumpkins and gourds are carved to reflect the visages of the various Oni and creatures they want to keep away. We request anyone wishing to participate bring their own pumpkin and/or gourd to carve/decorate. (We understand that in the proper not many want to bring carving tools so they are not stolen so we’re extending this contest to decorating it as well.) There will be ‘floating judges’ throughout the day and they will be given a time to turn in their choices. Please, have fun with it and do not feel like there is a deadline.

  • Four categories will be judged:
Most Artistic/Original/Creative: Choice of Mystic, Arcane, Divine, or Druidic Rune.
The Great Pumpkin (determined to possess all three qualities): 1-5th Rank Socket. Winner’s choice.

  • 12:30: Fighting Tournaments! The Festival Begins! In Selendrias, Autumn is a time to test the strength of and a chance to highlight their accomplishments for the year. Sylvan warriors test each other and prepare themselves for the difficulties to come. Corporal Arradir, V.E. will be the judging.
  • (The details of this will be made in a separate post below)

  • 1PM: Face Painting. Masks and costumes are popular in several cultures during this time of year, particularly in Amon'Zad. Squire Ebony will be providing a variety of options for face painting for anyone interested in a 'mask' for the day.

  • 1:15-2PM: Storytelling Contest. Stories of people and glories past are common in many cultures during Galladel’s Watch. Do you have a good story to tell a Sylph? Mantel will be judging. (Please, keep the stories a shorter length and keep in mind your audience so everyone has a turn)

  • Prize: Choice of Mystic, Arcane, Divine, or Druidic Rune.

  • 2PM-Tenative: Dancing! Cèilidh dancing will be taught to get ready for the Winterdark Ball! Caitriona NicCoinnich, a foreign guest of Salim’s from the Highlands, is offering to teach a Celtic form of ball dancing. There are others who are offering to teach various dances and they will provide details at the time. Anyone is welcome to attend and it’s just for good fun.

  • 3PM: Wren’s Raffle Drawing.

  • 4:30PM: Squire Ilana Darkwood and Brik Brockles will be collecting the Scavanger Hunt checklist papers.

  • 5PM: Mass for Galladel’s Watch. Anyone, baptized to any god or not, may benefit from the blessings of this mass. While hosted by Father Leias, others are invited to come and speak as well.

  • 6PM: Meet outside the inn for contest prize announcements.

  • Share in the bounty of the harvest by partaking in refreshments at the festival! Our menu includes hot apple cider, red lentil chili, fresh-baked cornbread, and a variety of other savory and sweet treats, available for a modest price. A full menu of available items and their prices will be posted at the festival.

A time of reflection and years past, Galladel's Watch is a time of year where the veil between the Spirit Realm and the Material Plane is weak, power is strong, and the nights grow long. Many spend the holiday vigilant and cautious of the things that hide in the shadows. However, many also bring light to those shadows with the love and honor they felt for those long gone. Though there are things that would want to hurt you and cause you to be afraid, angry, or unhappy, remember those times and people who kept you strong and stay strong with those memories and the people you now can share those memories with in the face of danger.

I wanted to thank everyone that visited the Harvest Festival and I hope you enjoyed yourselves! (despite the wasps)

We received enough of a positive response we're in the works to prepare for a Yule/Reclamation Festival in December. We'll have more details if you want to join in on setting up that after the Winterdark Ball.

Things were rather hectic this moon and I know not everyone received their prizes. Please contact me so I can award you!

    Be well everyone!
