Subjects of Travance,
Shortly before the March Feast, His Grace Count Winterdark posted some changes to, and clarifications of, the structure and organization of the Kingdom of Kormyre, with an eye towards how the Barony of Travance in particular will function going forward. I am reposting them here to ensure that anyone who missed his announcements has a chance to read them over.
While I encourage you to read the entire scroll, below is a summary of the main points. You are free to ask questions, but please try and refrain from asking about endless minor details or legal edge cases on this post.

- Royalty and Nobility are two different designations. Royalty is a bloodline; at the top is the King and Queen, and then it progresses down through Prince/Princess, and then to Count/Duke/Earl. All recognized Royalty of Kormyre has authority in whichever area of the kingdom they visit.
- Nobility is not a bloodline, but rather an appointment. It begins with a Baron/Baroness, then Lord/Lady, then Knight. Spouses of Barons/Baronesses & Lords/Ladies are elevated to the same title, but do not keep it should their spouse lose the title for any reason, and their offspring do not inherit it. Nobles in areas of the Kingdom they do not directly oversee do not have the ability to give orders, though their words should be given due weight.
- The Barony of Travance no longer has a Baron. Instead, it is presided over by a Council consisting of the Lords/Ladies.
- The Kingdom has granted special dispensation for Heroes. This is not free reign to do absolutely anything, but it does grant you the ability to ignore orders if you truly judge that your abilities are better used in a different manner.
- Travance Proper is the term used to refer to the roughly 100 acres of encampment and other areas upon which the monthly Baronial Feast takes place. This area is currently jointly overseen by the Council.
- As there is no longer a Baron, the area formerly known as the Baronial Estates has been changed from direct Baronial rule to its own Land named Albriar, of which I am the Lady.
- The Laws of the Kingdom have been updated to better reflect our changing relationship with different metaphysical powers. The laws posted in the Baronial Library have been updated to the new text.
- There have been significant changes to how crime & punishment is handled. Ultimately, the new system allows those who have been wronged to have more of a say in the punishment of the criminal. The key point to take away is that if you're ever not sure how to handle something, ask your Lord or Lady, an Inquisitor, or a Guard.
- The Baronial Guard & Baronial Inquisition function as a direct extension of the whomever is ruling over the Barony at the time. Currently, that is the Council as a whole.
- Any Travancian may join the Guard or Inquisition, regardless of whether or not they are vassaled to a Land. The only exceptions are the Captain of the Guard & the Magistrate, who must remain neutral. The organizations themselves are not tied to any specific land, but rather serve the entire Barony.
