Truth Be Told

Truth be told, truth is easier to speak
When the dam is so far from merely a leak
When there is nothing to lose when the future seems bleakest
You writhe and deny but the truth is you're seeking
The right words, the right phrases, your eyes on the page chasing;
You hem and you haw, you're boring a hole in the floor pacing
But you keep on and keep at it, and you're hungry for more
Than status quo and you know that there's plenty in store
Then it finally dawns, a smile drawn on your face
You laugh inwardly and out and don't feel out of place
Your mouth opens wide, tongue no longer chaste
You speak without slurring, without worry, without haste
The truth, at last, breathes and you do as well.
You've succeeded, as far as you can tell
The truth.
