Holiday - Valos' Rest was created by Ephrem (bamore62)
My fellow subjects of Travance,
Despite the challenge of this most recent Blight crisis, let us not forget cause for rejoicing. There has been many a time when Travencians have refused to let tragedies and difficulties dampen our spirits. This coming feast is the celebration of Valos' Rest.
Friday is Almsday, a day on which clergy travel door to door seeking donations of food and coin for the church. In many places of the Kingdom these donations are used to fund the celebrations to come, but in Travance we have real need, especially now that our mission houses are packed to capacity with the recent destruction of Troy and the current Blight crisis. I will gladly be a humble beggar for the cause of justice, as so too all the clergy.
Saturday is the Day of Accordance on which we joyfully celebrate the marriage of Valos and Andorra. Oft times there is a symbolic reenactment of the wedding followed by prayer and vigil throughout the night. Rather than a reenactment, we will have a short reading of the story of this most holy union.
Sunday is Valos' Rest on which "all menial labor is put on hold, grudges and grievances are forgiven and great jubilation and feasting takes place." Because some of the symbols of Valos are the sun and light, an oil lamp is kept burning all day so that all may light a candle from this lamp and carry it home to light the lamps in their own abodes. In fact, I will have the lamp burning all weekend at the altar in the Adventures' Guild. On Sunday morning, close to noon, the Church of Light will set up a table of food to share. With the help of Valos, may this also serve as celebration for victory over the Blight. Those of any faith or belief are welcome to share.
May the justice of Valos and the hope of his Lady come to dwell in all hearts.
Yours in the Light,
